i do them, it is one of the easier shade tree mechanic tasks

discs that is, i haven't looked at drums in about ten years

Dics brakes are simple to change. Never done drums though.

For my truck, the brake pads cost about $100 total. instllation charge: $0.... did it on my own.

Brake pads are the easiest thing on earth to replace. All it take is one large C clamp, a block of wood and some other tools like screw drivers and a wrench. Scrape the rut off the rotor to make installation of the new pads easier.
