Poll: Can you survive by eating only meat?

Do you think that a human could survive by eating only meat and nothing else?

I say yes, because some of the animals eat fruit and other plants, so there must be at least some of all the vitamins we need in the meat. Maybe not much and it may not be that healthy, but we could survive.

My father lived off of peanut butter, bacon, cheese, eggs, chicken, turkey, and beef for a year on his atkins diet. He was taking a multivitamin, but that is about it.

No they didn't. There were hunters and GATHERERS. They just took plants that were wild before agriculture.

Very likely you could live only on meat, if you were able to vary the diet to ensure that you were getting the types of meat in the right quantities to provide all the nutrients you need. However we are omnivores, our bodies are designed to eat plants more than meat due to the relative rarity of catching meat in prehistory. It would take work to do without plants.

You might be a little constipated at times though, not getting any fiber. 🙂

Schadenfroh: peanut butter isn't meat!

What do you mean by survive. You mean from a baby, right after getting off your mom, going right to meat? That might be a little tough.

What about liquids, can we still drink the juice from fruits, milk?

No, you can only drink water. As a baby you can drink breast milk for a while, but after that, only meat.

why would you do that and miss out on things like cheesecake and cookies....

im all for eating meat, but this is a silly idea.

Do you HAVE TO get scurvy if you have no vitamin C in your diet? If I was all by my self and was in sanitary conditions but had no source of vitamin C, do I have to get scurvy?

Yes. And you will die from it, if you don't get any C.

Yes, you will absolutely get scurvy.

Long term no. If you eat the stomach of an animal you might be able to fill your diet needs.

hmmmmmm half digested grass......

Why not try finding it out yourself? 😉

Scurvy isnt something you catch, it's a lack of materials in your body.

I am not sure what the relevance of this example is to the OP question. He asked if someone could survive by just eating meat. You reply by saying your father ate both poultry and beef, eggs, milk and pork products, AND multivitamins. What?
