You can choose to believe anything you want to believe... its just a matter of how far out your belief in whatever is before they put you in a straight jacket and lock ya in a looney bin :)

sometimes people get so caught up in things they think they ahve to believe and not that they chose to believe.

wanted a "stupid poll" option

count me under that one. Did you actually mean; "Does God exist only if you believe he exists?" b/c that is quite a different question.

No, I don't think so. You can choose to search for answers that ultimately lead you to believing in God, but you can't simply "choose to believe in God". That conscious, forced, action would be counter to the heart of the definition of believing.

You either have faith in God (gods, goddesses, buddha, ...) or you don't. It's not a matter of choice.

You can choose to follow some particular religion's practices, but that in itself is no guarantee you'll have faith in its unprovable tenets.

You have to choose. What is a priest going to bite your penis if you don't? Oh, I guess that's how they keep boys in the Catholic church :D

what do you mean? If you mean someone can just suddenly decide to believe, the no. My gf has been trying to get me to believe for over a year and a half. I can't just say "okay, I'll believe" and that's that. It's not a choice. I need proof.

Yes. All faith is choice; one chooses to make a committment to believe in something. How could it possibly be faith if you had no choice?

No, you can't. I can't. I can choose to go to the store. After which I actually make myself get up out of a chair and head to the store. I can not choose to believe in god. It doesn't matter how many times I say to myself "there is a god", I still don't actually believe that one exists.

No.. How can you possibly choose to believe in something? I'd like to see you choose to believe in Santa Claus.
