Poll: camping

FoBoT

No Lifer
i know there are a lot of city folks here, so i was wondering how many people have never slept in the woods/wilderness in a tent/open sky

RV's/trailers/cabins DON'T COUNT, THAT ISN'T "CAMPING" at least for purposes of this thread

yep. I used to go all the time with the folks, and some with the scouts.

"on my honor I will do my best to do my duty...in the woods and not wipe with poison ivy"

In the bathroom with the AWP 😉

No, I've been camping at a bunch of different places all across the US and Ecuador...and I mean the real stuff. If you're at a campground, you're probably not camping 😛

i'm going camping for a few days tomorrow. its hard going with people because there is always the city slicker that wants to cook pasta or something stupid like that. anyway, wisconsin has some great sites alongside the mississippi and wisconsin rivers, where I'll be.

I'm somewhere between the top two. I never had to live on grubs and berries. We planned better than that. But we have been out to a place called "Desolation Wilderness" (take the Rubicon train to the middle, and then go right a few miles). Spent about 4 days without hearing/seeing a single car or TV.

Sure have. Are you thinking about going? Or are you just trying to figure out how many people go camping or not?

I selected 'other' because I am an avid camper but have not actually went camping without taking my own food supplies whether they be a cooler full of hamburgers or dry rations.

Was that the correct choice or did you mean for me to take the first option since I have portaged into the boundary waters (Canada/Wisconsin) for over a week?

gururu,
you ever camped on the Wolf River?

While I'm in the Land of Suburbia, I went with the city option. I couldn't deal without a roof and a computer 😉

i should take my girls, i just don't want to do it around here. too many ticks and stuff. i grew up out west where you could go camping in the mountains, no mountains here

i need to plan something before my oldest daughter gets too old to want to do it.
my wife WILL NOT go, staying in a cheap motel is "Camping" to her

maybe i'll take the girls somewhere up north over labor day weekend

no I haven't Crazyape. recommended? are you in wisconsin?

me and my friend bdog go looking for sasquatch all the time...we live near seattle so we go to places in sultan (specifically sultan basin road) and near mt st helens (skookum meadow). our camping is pretty weaksauce, but in 3 days we hiked 50 miles...not bad for a couple of lazy 18 year olds.

camping was in a terrible tent, leaked like mad...we had to put on wet shoes every morning...got crazy blisters...it was too rainy for fires and 40 degrees out...i dont know how it was fun but it was

Friends and I go every year for between 3 days and a week. 🙂 Five years running now. Always liked camping.

If they can handle the 6-hour hike and carry the stove, let them have their pasta...

yes. in a tent, etc.
Yeah, it can be fun. campfire, waking up early in the morning. Its nice. The bad things are the misquitoes... i am SUPER allegic to them

I did it when I was in Boy Scouts and I'm doing it now with my son. In fact I will be camping with him this weekend and it's raining.

No, I'm in northern Illinois. But we go up to Langlade, WI and whitewater raft on the Wolf. It's on an Indian reservation and they give you a paddle, life jacket, and a raft. No guides whatsoever.
