You know, the songs that play instead of a ring when you call somebody's phone. Personally, I can't stand them. Whoever thought that Transiberian Orchestra would sound better over a crappy cell phone speaker for 8 seconds was on crack.

[edit] Ringtones are not the same as ringback tones. Ringtons = your cell phone plays something out loud where everyone can hear. Ringback tones (caller tunes) are what you as the caller hear in your ear when you're waiting for the person to pick up.

Some are cool. The VAST majority are stupid. Personally I have take me out by: franz ferdinand on mine. no lyrics, just a great beat.

i know someone with a ringback tone. when i call them i hear the spinners 'whenever you need me (ill be there, ill be around)'. and to be perfectly honest, everytime i call they answer their phone. the lyrics do hold true.

Depends on the tune the selected in the vast majority of cases.

I've got the instrumental version of Christmas Time Is Here from A Charlie Brown Christmas on my phone right now.

Being tasteful in selection is key.
I have the Mike Tyson's punchout training music, the Austin Powers ring tone (not the theme music, the chime they use on those video intercoms), the Monday Night Football theme, and the Empire Strike back.
This guy in the cube next to me has Street Fighter sounds for his text messages. Like Ken and Ryu's attacks. Amusing at first, but annoying.

I don't even think my phone has ringtones. My ring sounds like something an 83-yr-old lady would pick.

I absolutely despise them. I don't even call my cousin anymore because she has that damn hinder song about the angel lips or whatever, and I fvcking hate that song.

That being said, if I could make my own ringback tones, I'd either have "Lemon Demon - The Song You Hear When You Die" or that "annoy.mp3" that was floating around the forum a few months ago, that one that was in a flash animation of an anime girl spinning a flower or something.
