POLL: Cable Service (TV and/or Internet) Are you satisfied?

Hello,

I am very curious, as I see a lot of people complaining about cable service. Not just here, but everywhere.

I myself just got rid of Extended Basic Cable (About 50-60 channels of cable. Regular Basic cable is like 10 channels) for a satelite dish. The dish is TONS cheaper than cable. Our cable company raised rates to almost $40 for Extended basic. The dish costs 30 bucks with local channels and have much better picture quality.

I thought that was the end of that. I thought I had finally solved all of our cable problems. However, the cable company raised the price of our Cable Internet (which we do have some service problems, but they are bearable). It's now $10 more a month all because we decided 40 dollars a month was a bit to much to pay for basic cable!

Anyways, I'm fed up with the Cable Company here in Iowa (they are called MediaCom). I am wondering if any other company in the nation is any good. This is why I'm starting this poll.

Thanks for the interest and your vote.

i pay $99 for digital cable service/internet (768/128). The only gripe i have is that sometimes the tv lags while changing channels.

That is not bad at all. I would have gladly paid $100 a month if digital cable was included. We paid (before the switch to the dish) $105 or so a month for Internet and just normal cable. And some channels came in very poor.

What company provides your cable?

Last year, I paid close to $42 for basic plus, or extended basic, or what ever the hell it is called. I remember that it used to cost my dad like $12 a month 15 years ago.

I dropped it about two months after the introductory rate (50% off) expired. I only watched 4-5 of the extra channels on a regular basis anyway.

Due to a limitation of the equipment serving my neighborhood, if I sign up for RoadRunner, I get sub-basic cable for free. They can't seperate the data and basic cable TV signal for some reason, and they told me flat-out that they pretty much look the other way if I want to splice my TV in (don't ask, don't tell, if you will). I was coasting along on that deal for a long time, but I'd rather save some dough right now, so I'm on a "premium plan" with a rather impressive local ISP for $11.99 a month (billed every 6).

In short, I'm not satisfied, because they charge so much money (close to $90 a month for basic-plus TV and cable modem). There were no deals to be had for basic-plus and data together. I didn't feel like making the cable empire $1000 richer per year anymore. I'd rather have the $1000 for my self 😉 .

WTF :| I pay that just for the digital cable (no internet) here in NYC. We New Yorkers always have to pay more for everything. Damn your monopoly Time Warner.

I have Cox her in Vegas and pay 78$ for basic expanded and broadband 150/300. I am not crazy about the price but nothing seems to be cheap anymore.

I currently have Charter Cable Digital and Pipeline Internet.
Its too expensive for what you get, their version of digital cable looks no different than their basic and customer service is run by a bunch of gum chewing loud mouth women with all of the common sense God gave a rock.
Unfortunately its the only thing available at the moment.

I'm paying $125 for Digital with all premium channels
768/125 internet

i pay $99.00 / month just for internet. i have comcast pro which gives me 2 mb down / 512 up and 4 ip addresses.

currently i'm on basic cable service, but as soon as i move i'm gonna get satellite.

Yes, all I could ask for is to pay less per month, but I'm already w/ the least expensive provider in my area 🙂

you mean dish isn't available?? how is that possible?

if you were to get dish and JUST internet from charter, how much would they charge you?

I'm unhappy with my cable internet, because it's $45/mo for a fast download, but horrid (77Kbps avg) upload. I say they owe me 256. 😛

As for the TV service, I had it, but it was horribly over priced and didn't offer any of the cool channels. So I'm not an Insight Communications fan to say the least.

At least they're better than Cable One. I hate those bastards.

I get 448/96 kbs speed for $40 a month. :|

I get like 75 channels + HBO for about $50 a month. :|

$90 total but it should be more like $65 total when compared to the averages.

For the most part, yes.

Paying $120 for full Digital TV (all the channels, all the premiums, all the VOD) plus Broadband (3000/768) from Time Warner NYC... they call it the "Its all here" package.

I have DirectTV ($39/Mo) and Cox Cable Internet ($49/Mo).

The DirectTV service is 10x better than analog cable - havent tried digital.

It would be about the same price to stick with just cable, but I'm too addicted to NFL sunday ticket to drop DirectTV! 🙂

satellite is better than digital cable.

Some of these deals look awesome... Wish we had the "It's All Here" deal in Iowa...

Our deal's always seem like "Nothing's Here".

we have cable tv through comcast/att (DSL internet thru sbc tho) but the only reasonwe havent switched to satellite tv is because we have like 6 tvs in the house. We can just use splitters with cable tv, but with satellite, wed have to buy more boxes or converters right?

I'm not satisfied with my service from AT&T/Comcrap for 2 resons: First, my internet services have been progessively stripped away while prices have gone up. I used to get 3000/128 from @Home, and I was happy, then AT&T took it down to 1500/128(and now, 1500/256). All the meanwhile, prices went up from $39/$29(with/without modem rental), to $45/$42. In the switch to Comcast, we just recently lost our unlimited newsgroup access too.

TV wise, we're paying far too much for Expanded Basic, but that seems to be the common theme here.

DAMN! I gotta change to that. I'm paying about $87/month for digital + HBO & Roadrunner.
