On the older ones this is true, but all the newer ones are indeed San Diego and as thus have all these extra features. Depends.

AFAIK the only processors that are San Diego's are the 3700, 4000, FX-55 and FX-57

Thats true and the FX-53 is totally overpriced these days but $250 Dollar is simply a good deal on it. Athlon64 4000+ has the same speed for much lower price but i m not sure how good/bad the unlocked multipler is since i never was interessted in an FX53 cause they did/do cost way to much money.

One thing is for sure... great Gamer CPU :)

I would buy a 3700+ instead. Even though the fx-53 is multiplier unlocked it doesnt have a whole lot of headroom for overclocking (that's why amd had to do strained silicon on the 130nm FX-55s). Also, all FX53s should be CG stepping, which is rather hot, doesnt have the improved mem controller of the newer cores and uses a lot more power.

F*ck yeah!

Unlocked multi = so much fun for OCing.

Or you could sell it for a lot more, & use the money made for other stuff :)

Unlocked multi is pretty useless on that chip since it should require a big voltage increase to hit 2.6 and most likely wont do 2.8 anyway.

Is this specific FX-53 number a good one?

ADafx53drp5as (Socket 939)

The part number for the FX-53 at AMD's website is the same but with a "53dEp" instead of "53dRp"
