Yeah. Eisenhower ordered the democratically elected government of Iran overthrown and had the Shah installed. The Shah happened to be a rather corrupt dictator, and the revolution came about as a result.

If the Shah had a strong (and loyal) military + police there would have been no revolution and Iran might be run by a pro-western government today. Or could be another Saddam. Who knows.

What if George Washington had a heart attack before the start of the American Revolution? We might be living in the U.K. now. What if Charles Martel hadn't stopped the Muslim advance in to Europe? Maybe all of Europe would be Muslim.You can go on forever with hypothetical situations with what would've happened as a result of an action that didn't occur; I only make a causal connection with acts that did in fact occur.

so somebody is going to have to grow a pair in the next couple of years and take care of that

Their release was announced by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who said they would be handed over to the British embassy.

He said he had pardoned the sailors as a gift to the British people and to mark the birthday of Islam's Prophet Mohammed and Easter.
