Poll: Breastfeeding analogies

It is analogous to eating it is eating. And it is not a personal privacy issue. If Mom wants to expose herself for her baby to eat that should be her right. How can people get offended by an infant suckling? My wife is due in a week, and although she'll be modest about it, she will definitely breastfeed in public. Anyone who complains will have to deal with little ol' me. 🙂
 
Like every single thing in the world. It can be done tastefully and tastelessly. There are appropriate times and inappropriate times. /topic.
 
Public breastfeeding is ok just as long as the mother's think it is ok if men gawk at them. If they are offended by the people who stare, then don't do it in public.

The outcry over public nudity is way overblown in the US anyways though.
 
First poll needs an 'all of the above' option, it's extremely biased.

AT is not a societal representive sample, so I'm not sure what you expect to prove. The site has a disproportionate number of young people, meaning new parents who think the world revolves around their baby and horny boys who want desperately to see boobs outside of their computer room.

Please, grow up. If not for me or AT, for the sake of your kids.

It's just an internet poll, it's not meant to be definitive or answer any big questions.

This article would be instructive if you're looking for truly scientific data. It found that only 25% of respondants found public breastfeeding embarassing. Of course one would have to know a considerable deal more about the poll before it becomes meaningful.

I am unable to agree with your position that breastfeeding is analogous to urination and I suspect that rationale is caused by other motivations.
This thread is certainly related, but it specifically questions the validity of the analogies the other thread brought up. I'm honestly curious how many people agree with them.

You're very upset, and I hope you won't let this influence your opinion of me. We're all friends here after all. 🙂

Europeans are much more tolerant/understand of nudity than prudish Americans.
Everything said about the 13 year old dweebs on this board and boobies is true.
Everything said about "right and wrong ways to do it" is also true.

Here's my take. Let's assume we're anywhere in the Continental US (lower 48 for the rest of you).

Let's assume Mom is a MILF (Hey, bite me! It's MY reply, get your own!) If she's fat and ugly, nobody will care anyway...get back to the trailer park, honey.
Anyway..

- Mom whips out a boob in the middle of the shopping mall and just sits there, exposed to the world. This is THE WRONG WAY TO DO IT. You attract attention whether you think it's right or wrong. If you flash your boobs in public, I will sit there and stare at you. Same damn thing when you wear a blouse that's unbuttoned to your crotch. You say "What the HELL are you looking at?" I say "Your t!ts baby. WTH do you THINK I'm looking at?"

- Same Mom. Covers her chest and baby with a blanket, goes about her business. This is the RIGHT WAY TO DO IT. You're not flaunting or advertising, so I'm not looking. End of story.

Just got back, I see you haven't changed your heavily biased poll. What are you trying to prove, that biased polls thrust at a small and non-average segment of the population provide biased results? That's something we can actually agree on 😉

Hrm, after checking out solid links in the other thread, I have to concede it's more widely accepted than I realized. Doesn't change the fact this poll is biased as hell though.

I've never seen it done in a fashion that was designed to call attention to the mother or what she was doing, and as i said till i was blue in the face before, it's not as if you can see anything you can't at the beach in summer, which none of the prudish 'omgit'ssodisgustingitslikeifistartedwankinginyourfaceatthesupermarket' morons seem to have problem with :roll:

I might have answered the privacy issue portion of the poll wrong... But I'm not sure... Do women always have their credit card numbers and social security numbers prominently displayed on their breasts when feeding their baby? I guess u folks who have seen naked women would know the answer to that... But anyways, if they do, then yes that would be a privacy invasion. Otherwise I fail to see the connection between this topic and the important aspects of privacy as we normally discuss them with respect to identity theft. Furthermore, to quote Greenwood v. California quoting Katz v. US, "[w]hat a person knowingly exposes to the public, even in his own home or office, is not a subject of Fourth Amendment protection"
 
I don't think people realize, but they're only offended because it's becoming more common and society has made it a thing to where you're suppose to be offended by it when it's not really a big deal at all if you think about it. While I don't like the sight of it and get annoyed, I think it's cause society has told us it's a taboo type thing when it really shouldn't be..
