POLL: bi-weekly vs. bimonthly ... which is more correct for specifying every two weeks?

bi·month·ly ( P ) Pronunciation Key (b-mnthl)
adj.
Happening every two months.
Happening twice a month; semimonthly.

if you say bimonthly, people are going to know exactly what you mean (twice a month).

every two weeks =/ twice a month, though.

I thought this was answered already. Anyways,

bi-weekly = 26 times per year
bi-monthly = 24 times per year

How about saying, "every two weeks" or "every other week". No reason for the confusing "bi" prefix that can mean either twice or half.

Really? That's odd.
Yes, really.

And its not odd. Its math.

I think he's saying it's odd that you used bi- as half in one case and twice in the other case.

Well why does the bi prefix for weekly mean multiply by two; and the bi prefix for monthly mean divide by two?

What? How old are you? How is that odd?

There are 52 weeks in a year. Every 2 weeks=26 times a year. There are 12 months in a year. Twice a month=24 times a year.

Or be thoroughly confused and think you mean every two months.

Look it up on the dictionary. Bi can mean multiply by two or divide by two:

biweekly:"1. Happening every two weeks. 2. Happening twice a week."
bimonthly: "1. Happening every two months. 2. Happening twice a month."
biyearly "1. Happening every two years. 2. Happening twice a year."

bi- prefix usage: "Bimonthly and biweekly mean ?once every two months? and ?once every two weeks.? For ?twice a month? and ?twice a week,? the words semimonthly and semiweekly should be used. Since there is a great deal of confusion over the distinction, a writer is well advised to substitute expressions like every two months or twice a month where possible. However, each noun form has only one sense in the publishing world. Thus, a bimonthly is published every two months, and a biweekly every two weeks."

if we're talking about what's commonly used when talking about paycheck:

bi-weekly = every two weeks (e.g. payday is every other week on friday)
bi-monthly = twice a month (e.g. payday is always at the 1st and the 15th)
