Poll: Best desktop search software?

I tried Google Desktop it slows my pc while it searches 4,000 documents so it is not worth it.
 
the beta of Yahoo Desktop Search, by far. Rev. 1.0

the trick is to have it do the indexing when you're not using the computer.

so then the computer can help find the document you're looking for, buried
somewhere in "the big Hairball" (borrowing Marc Andreassen's term for
Windows Explorer.)

i like it because it finds stuff. very quickly. it indexes your hard drives
when you tell it to. then you type in what you're looking for, and it brings
up any file that has that text string anywhere in it or in the file name or
folder name.

I'm not a heavy duty searcher, but I've used Google Desktop before. It worked fine, but I like keeping things "in house" as much as possible. Vista's search works great, and it's seamlessly integrated of course, so that's why I prefer it.
 
I don't relate to "desktop search." (I know where everything is on my desktop.) For searches inside my PC I prefer Windows built-in search function.

For searches on the Internet, I prefer Google.

Ergo, in the language of the poll, I selected "Other."
 
I've only used Google Desktop Search and Windows Desktop Search. I prefer WDS because it allows me to access normal Explorer context menus in the search results and it integrates well with Outlook 2007. Google displays results in a browser window, which is close to worthless if you want to do anything other than the default action on the file.
