Lots of comic book threads. :D

I'm betting Marvel will win this. It's unfortunate that so many people don't get past Marvel...

EDIT: Added poll

Marvel is weak. Does a carnage comic even come out anymore? I think Punisher is one of the few Marvel comics that is geared towards adults.

DC/Vertigo/Wildstorm has/had:
Batman
Sandman
Transmetropolitan
Preacher
The Authority

Old school Darkhorse, IMO. Their early stuff was just fantastic. The print stock that they put their books out on was nice and durable. Their art was top shelf all around on their major franchises (not too many publishers willing to put out a book where the pictures were originally done in oils [The Thing From Another World]). The stories they had were often good. Best part was no ads!! Their early stuff makes up the majority of my moderate collection. Alas, now they've really gone down hill.

In terms of other comics, I haven't collected very much for several years. A few series here and there. (Crimson and Battle Pope)

BTW, is Image still a compeating company? Should have them up there, too.

Edit: Oh, and I forgot to mention price. The value for what you got back then was unbeatable.

I had just thought of image before reading your comment, thanks for the reminder. :)

I like a lot of Darkhorse stuff. Hell, I read a lot of comics. I just think DC is the bestest. :p

I'm not a Marvel fanboy or anything, but I would argue that point. Almost no Marvel books are aimed at kids these days (and the ones that are aimed at them are horribly mishandled). Even the Avengers had a controversial bit where Ant-Man was using his shrinking powers to, uh, "have fun" with the Wasp (and yes, I realize entirely how geeky that is and no, I haven't read the issue in question, just a scan of that page).

As for my favorite company, I'd pick DC/Vertigo/Wildstorm or Fantagraphics (which isn't on the list). DC has some okay stuff, but Vertigo and Wildstorm are the kickers. Overall, tho, I would probably pick Silver Age Marvel or 80s DC (for some reason, I love that era, even going beyond Dark Knight Returns and Watchmen).

Ok, so not little kids.

Never heard of fantagraphics.

A friend of mine collects the cheesey silverage marvel stuff. There was a story floating around the San Fran Comicon about him too apparently (along with his CGCed Spiderman #1). :p

I grew up as a Marvel Fanboy... but surprisingly, now that I'm back into comics after graduating college, I read almost nothing but DC/Wildstorm. I can't seem to find a decent Marvel book to hold my interest. Even the Ultimate books aren't doing it for me...

They do art and indie comics (as well as classic comic strip reprints and the like). They're the publisher doing the Complete Peanuts, for example. Also they publish Eightball and Hate (among a lot of other things).

Image was definitely style over substance. The Spawn/Batman crossovers were great though.

I collected comic books for nearly ten years and I never really cared for Marvel. The Spider-Man books were hit and miss.

The Batman books were always the best.
