Oh by best I mean -DAE speed, access time, silent operation, and generally good overall experiences.

I would personally pay extra for the TEAC if you do a lot of DAE.

You're going to get all sorts of answers here. Just get whatever on the list (consider the ASUS drives as well).

Supposedly there have been bad stories with the Creative drives...I returned mine after a friend let me know about it. I also had to RMA a Creative DVD-ROM recently, so I guess all Creative drives are plagued with bad design?

Get Toshiba, not in the list but that's the best CD-Rom if you want the BEST.

for DAE, i like the teac...if you do alot of that then the extra $$$ is worth it...i also like the sony 52X

Sorry, I posted two threads. The other thread has the poll. But thanks guys for the feedback! I know not much choice at mwave but I will be buying a video card there too via will call so I might as well buy the cdrom while I'm at it.

Do NOT get a Creative drive. They are terrible. Won't last more than a few months at the most. I'd guess the Teac would be most reliable but I don't know about DAE.

Personally I'd just get a Toshiba or Pioneer DVD drive for $50-$60.

Creative flat out sucks!!! noisy, poor DAE, and unreliable.

Go HERE and get the ASUS 50x for $37. Best damn CD ROM I've ever owned.
