I would like to build a system around the All-in-Wonder RADEON AGP video card.

But I heard stories about incompatibility with AMD processors.

Does anyone have any experience with this combination?
Would you recommend it?

If not my rig will look like this:
> AMD Athlon 1.3 GHz
> 256 MB DDR RAM
> 40GB IBM HD 7200 rpm
> ATI All-in-Wonder RADEON AGP video
> Soundblaster Live
> 12X/8X/32X CD-RW drive
> 16X/40X DVD drive
> 3.5" floppy drive
> Windows 2000 Professional

Comments are welcome!

Regards,

Gijs.

I have almost the same exact setup.

Tbird 1.2 AXIA @1333
Asus A7V133
AIW Radeon
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz Sound
Win2K

There are a few things I would recomend. I would not use the CD that they ship with the AIW for your install. You will need to download the latest drivers for win2k ver. 3211. You can get those at rage 3d You will also need to get Multimedia Center 7.1 and ATI DVD Player 4.1 Both those can be found at ati's site You will also need DirectX 8 You also NEED the digital update for directX. They can be found here

Also, what motherboard are you going to use? If it is a VIA chipset board, you may want to think again about the soundblaster LIVE. The via 686b southbridge does not like the LIVE. Especially if you are doing video capture.

My AIW Radeon works very nicely on a similar setup. My Soundblaster Live 5.1 works fine as well in my rig, and gives me no trouble while capturing on my Via board.

Duron 650 not overclocked, Win2k SP2, I can capture with no dropped frames:

720x480 mpeg-2 I frames only all other settings maxed
480x480 mpeg-2 IPB frames all other settings maxed
720x480 Raw uncompressed AVI

No incompatabilities here, that 1.3 t-bird should be a perfect match!

thanx for the useful feedback, it is much appreciated.

Wrt motherboard, I had the same A7V133 in . But with the advise above I am now looking at the ASUS A7A266 board, with ALi M1647 chipset. This supports DDR memory and is about the same price.

I am not such a sound freak that I want to spend $100 on a sound card...

Best regards, Gijs.

think again for buying a7a266, as what i experienced and heard, there's always a cpu speed detect problem after one or two months of using it.

after shut down the computer, the board will automaticly overclock the cpu and frezzes up when turning the computer back on.

when restart again, you will in the bios' cpu detect page and saying a incorrect cpu speed setting causing the system hangs.

the problem is no matter how many times you set the speed back and save the chnages. It will still happen after you turn on the computer unless you never shut down the computer.

and sometimes, it take me an hour to turn the computer.

for i recommend, DON'T BUY A7A266
