I have already semi-retired my truck. I bought my grandparents old buick lesabre. Gets 23 around town and 32 on the highway. Not bad for a pretty big V6. 🙂

The 360 in my dodge gets about 10/17. Kinda hurts. The car really helps on those 800 mile round trip drives to my parents' place for holidays and visits.

What I really want is a midsize truck with a turbodiesel. It would be nice if Dodge dropped a Benz diesel in a Dakota. They're getting the right idea with the diesel Liberty, but they skimped on the motor. Needs to be a bit bigger.

The Dakota has a diesel. You just have to live in Brazil to get it. The US regulations are very anti-diesel.

I have to drive for my job. I can't afford not to drive. My car is supposed to get up to 38mpg highway. I usually get about 33 if I set the cruise for 74 or so.

I think gas prices are really starting to affect what cars people buy. Since the last time I looked at Edmunds my little domestic subcompact has gone up at least several hundred dollars in value.

i'm still thinking. right now i live about 7.5 miles from work, however i live REALLY close to the red line station, which will take me to hollywood and highland, which is a five minute walk from my office.

right now i spend about 50/month on gas with normal habits, since i drive a civic, but its all city. i could save the 50/month but i'd wind up spending it on a monthly redline pass.

decisions.

EDIT: i also pay a ton for full coverage here in LA, so for that alone i'm really tempted to drive my car to make sure of my insurance. but if i start doing redline, i may just drop to liability only.

I only live 10 miles from work.

The wife went from driving 35K mi. a year to only 5K mi. now.

So, I'd say $5.00 before I'd think about buying a car with better gas mileage or carpooling.

Heh....I usually put more miles on my bike than on my car.

Well, this would be my experience in the last time. "Lucky" that I have 400km drives to do sometimes

Hey, you can drive whatever you want as long as you don't mind paying for it. 😉

I voted over $5/gallon. I drive everywhere. A motorcycle or bike isn't an option for me with work, school and a 2.5 year old son. Must have car. I suppose if gas prices were over $5 a gallon I would probably look seriously at a hybrid.

I use the car to drop the tot off at daycare, then bike into work (daycare's only a couple miles away). I drove all the way in today (it's pouring) and it took for freaking ever. :frown:

short/everyday trips we drive the accord. weekend trips we drive the SUV. This has always been the case and always will be no matter the gas price.

I'm sure this will change once we have kids and the SUV is more convenient (to load them in/out). It's even a PITA to load myself in and out of the Accord in comparison.

Anyone else noticing that stuff in supermarkets has gone up because of the gas prices? (remember, the food doesn't get there via teleporters)
