I was thinking of getting a new mobo. I can get the Asus 815 board for $140 or I can get the MSI 815 board for $100. Is the asus really worth the extra 40% in cost. Well they both have the same chipsets and so almost the same features. One thing is the asus doesn't have the onboard sound while the MSI does. So what do you Guys & Gals thing? I am currenly leaning towards the MSI board. Tell me what your people all think

Thanks for the help in advance.

I like MSI boards but if your wanting the most stable the ASUS I think makes better sense... Also it seems the quality of the CUSL2 or other ASUS boards are better... I went with the CUSL2 for various reasons mainly because of past exp. with ASUS boards... I do have an MSI6163pro with a Celeron II 533a @950mhz and really like it too...

But the CUSL2 will run my P3 700e up to 1050mhz 1.65 volts and the 6163pro will only do 1015mhz 1.70 (did a recheck & use the same componets except for HD)...

I see a lot more posts about problems with the ASUS board though. I have a BXMaster and am happy with that MSI board, but had a problem with the 815E Pro, so I returned it. I am waiting to get the new Abit SA6R board. It is a 815E with RAID.

I have both boards here.. and so far i am entirely unimpressed by either..
the MSI board will let you make 1mhz adjustments if you have the right combination to unluck them.. "impossibly dumbass settings to get unlocked"
the asus is much the same the only thing i can do is OC all my speeds or None.. what happend to
a nice low bus speed with multiple combinations of settings that don't have me running everything at 41 mhz? the p3bf had better luck than this one does.. Ran this 700@933 for 5 days on it.. evrything solid.. rebooted yesterday and it WILL NOT post back to 933.... does just fine at lower speeds.. beats me asus has always been my favorite but this boards unimpressive in it's options...just my .02

i have upgraded and downgraded bio's on both boards... nothing works as expected...

My CUSL2 has worked very well for me. I am now running my PIII-600e at 1G (1.8V) rock solid. I have also been upgrading the BIOS (beta or otherwise) and have not had any problem whatsover. Great board. Highly recommended.

I will have to disagree with Bartman39 on quality & stability ,between MSI & ASUS they are about the same in other words very high standard ,next there have been less Bios problems with MSI boards then ASUS boards in general, either board will be a fine choice it`s down to price & performance of the two boards, eitherway you will get a excellent board.

:)

If the price difference is minimal, go with a ASUS. For you in this case, go with MSI, it is not worth the $40 difference.

I think we are giving (mikeg) what he wants which is opinions and information but take the time to vote on his poll also... I read and take in all the info good or bad and it helps me in my future decisions also (thanks to all from me...)

PS got me wondering if the MSI or Abit board might be in my next project...

I have a pair of ASUS CUSL2s.. not bad board, much better than my BX6R2..

Using 512mb 256mb x2 from crucial has instability

but

using 1 256mb + 2 128mb = 512 works fine.. weird, alway thought filling 3 slots is bad..

Bartman...friends don't let friends buy Abit! If you're gonna do anything, get the MSI. :)

Have a look at the new CUSL2-C. No on-board i752 video, and US$30 cheaper than the CUSL2.

I hear ya Steve ;) I must have gotten some bad stuff to think that...

BTW I traded off my BE6 II rev.1 for a Dreamcast anyhow (the kids love it...)
