POLL: Are you politically active?

I've noticed that many of our OTers are quite outspoken with regard to political issues, so it kinda got me wondering how many of you are actively involved in politics beyond just voting or writing a check. I am involved with the Georgia Democratic Party, GARAL (the GA arm of NARAL), and did a bunch of work for Shirley Franklin during our recent mayoral election here in Atlanta. I've also done some work with the Carter Center in years past.

Feel free to post links to whatever organizations, etc you are involved with.

EDIT- if you are totally uninvolved in politics, why?

I'm about as politically active as the dirt in my backyard...

I do vote though.

edit:why? I'm pretty content with my community's political decisions. I haven't been dissapointed thus far... so I trust the opinions of those around me that are interested in politics without doing the research myself. Before voting time, I just ask a few friends who they think is good and I vote.

I donate money, time, and personally met the top 10 or so candidates for the last presidential election, including watching the SuperBowl with John McCain, and Lunch at McDonalds with Alan Keyes.

i am politically active, although i think the great thing about this country is that it's okay to be apathetic about politics and government. that's a sign that the government is working, if the average citizen is not affected by its day-to-day operations.

too young to vote.

i am pretty much apathetic though... i have opinions, but rarely are they strong enough to warrant actual physical movement from me. i might vote, but never will i be an activist. i find them annoying, they always clog the streets up with their damned protests.

This isn't necessarily about activism, it's about direct participation in the political process. There's kind of a difference in my mind.

<< No, I just vote. >>

Well, other than things like complaining to the city and starting a petition not to have low-income or section-8 housing less than a block from my tax-paying home, I usually only vote.

yea i know, i just felt the need to harass activists. f*cking wto freaks...

I vote and am somewhat active on children's issues and animal rescue/relief efforts.

I usually vote, although with the recent news stories about shadow governments in place, I'm beginning to wonder if even that's overrated. Maybe just a waste of time, they'll do whatever they want if it becomes necessary. They've never asked for and I highly suspect won't need my or your approval.

I've sent e-mails a few times to my senator but never got any response - not even an autoreply. He's been in since the early 70's so it's pretty much a sure thing for him - why bother responding.

Personally, I think limited representative governments suck. Quite a few have gone down the tubes in the past. I'd like a much broader direct democracy with initation or referendum. At least I've got better odds there. Worst case scenario, if I had to, I would just chuck out the power players and go for a monarchy again. At least we could hang them or chop off their heads and get a new one. Now the options are much more limited and come with very little threat of consequences for ones actions. Who's the last congressional representative or executive that you saw in jail?

I vote, have been involved in a congressional campaign, worked for local government, and go to as many political rallies as possible.

Once I graduate I want my LIFE to be political activity. 😀
