POLL: Are you going to kick your old system to the curb when Conroe ships?

For those of you who previously owned Intel and went amd (or were always an amd user) have you already decided to change platforms?

You know what Im going to do, what about you?

i think he's tired of Conroe hype threads. Which i can understand.

But anyway i'm keeping mine, it's a very good 170, i plan on making it into a LAN computer while the Conroe can be my powerful desktop.

I won't be kicking any of my PC's to the curb when Conroe comes out. I'll wait until mid 2007 to decide what to do with them but they'll probably end up being my little brothers machines then.

I might be tempted to replace my now ageing Dual P3 system with a Conroe setup but other than that not going to "jump from a ship" i'm perfectly happy with.

Why?

Because I can see where this is going, and I asked nicely?

If I spent $500+ on new components I might be inclined to wait a spell. But Im still using my p4 3.2@3.8 from 2004, its about time!

Now heres the thing, Im not really using / doing anything that demands much more than the hardware I have now. DVD burning and MP3 / WAV /APE decoding / recoding etc is where Im hoping for the greatest impact. Otherwise, I play a little CIV3 on occassion or Roller Coaster Tycoon Deluxe. I prefer strategy and sims over 3D shoot em ups. I even played Vice City awhile back because it was in the news all the time and I wanted to see what all the hub-bub was about.

Figure my X2 will be able to hold out to sometime in 2007 (just maybe a vid card upgrade), and then decide to go with Intel/AMD at that point.

Where is this going ? Felix is just expressing himeself like some people do. Have you PM'ed a mod on it ? You should if you feel that way, right ? Isn't that what you do when you don't like what somebody says Avalon ?

When I get a Conroe system it will be my second fiddle computer anyways....4 cores at 2.6ghz would be faster in the apps I run....

I may just use the Conroe system to play around with....Everything else I DO willl be faster on my dualie system....

That is ofcourse unless I can OC it to near 4ghz....

4 GHz probably not, i'm banking that 3.5+ Ghz won't be too hard to get on air cooling though 🙂

Rather optimistic considering the 2.66GHz stock highend. Getting merely to 3GHz would be amazing enough if the previews aren't too good to be true. Although I'd be happy to hit 2.66 with Intel's cheapest Conroe solution.

That being said I definitely would not kick anything to the curb, I'd put it to good use.

I'll wait to decide till i actually see how they stack up against my current Opty @ 2.7 GHz.

Actually the highest clocked version is the 3.33 Ghz Extreme Edition Conroe, and there is a 2.93 Ghz model as well.

Nope, I'm just swapping processors (as long as gigabyte didn't screw me over, if they did processors and motherboards).

I'd love to grab one but may not be able to justify it. As I would have to get new mobo($150-200) and memory($150-200) in addition to the cpu cost I may have to "settle" for a X2 if AMD cuts the price some on the 3800 version. $250 versus $650 will sway my decision.

Yes!!
I'll scrap my $2000+ system and build a Conroe system, because I'm gullable and will buy anything that I'm told is a little better than what I have.

Edit:
Nope, not really. It'll cost alot more to switch to PCI-E and DDR2 than it's worth. If I get anything it'll be a 4800 X2. I built this system with that intention and it was meant to last, at the very least, a year and a half.

Nope. I invested wisely and heavily in a very high end s939 system that will last until AMDs next new CPU is released. I may make a Conroe system for myself to mess around with though.

Nope, I have a very nice s939 system that wasn't free and will still kick the sht out of most people's computers.
