Yes we did have a nice runup but that was to make up for the previous couple of years of dismal returns. Im net long retirement/personal side but do occasionally go temporarily short. What about you?

Well I'm up about 30% these last few months .... though I'm only up about 10% or so over the last few years. I'm thinking my WAG is gonna be good for me.

I tend to be slightly bullish right now. I don't think it has fully gotten back on track after the correction though. So while I think that overall it will be going up over the next couple years I think it's going to be a volitile interim.

I don't really like active strategies for portfolio management though, historically they under-perform even before costs are factored in, and when the additional costs of maintaining actively managed portfolios come into play they really can't even remotely compare to index funds.

Agreed long term investing is the key, but i do see things improving --- more tax cuts!

Actually I would argue for a flat tax and the elimination of the IRS (think of all the money we'd save eliminating an entire government entity, not to mention all of the money business would save not having to have entire floors in their office buildings devoted to figuring out their taxes)

bullish, but it's a 50/50 pick. Nobody knows where it will go except historically it goes up 8-10 a year on average over a long enough period of time. Obviously if everybody in the world thought it would shoot up over the next 12 months it would be valued at more than what it is, and then it would no longer be able to go up.

I think one of the biggest problems we face is that pesky dollar valuation problem. The euro and yen have been gaining ground on us becuase of our low interest rates, renewed deficit spending, etc. As a result foriegn money is fleeing.
