Because of law and order Reagan Dems were getting the rep of being soft on crime. They jumped on the band wagon in the early 90s.

Same thing about the Afghanistan War. They let themselves pressured to give Bush the authorization to wage war instead of insisting following the Constitution. Dems rolled over a lot back then

I would agree the war on drugs is a policy that was supported by many Democrats in no small part because if they didn’t Republicans would accuse them of being soft on crime. Losing the 88 election because of the Willie Horton ads left a mark. However there has also been a significant shift away from supporting these policies and recognition that they are not working.

It's the equivalency of Jehovah Witnesses coming to your home - they have an agenda and it is their duty to convince you that they have it figured out and you don't. Arguments? Debate? Different ways of thinking? Not something that is cared about or even acknowledged.

Let me try to dumb it down for you.

We have a current party that supports racists policies and runs on (as in campaign speeches and political rhetoric) xenophobia.

The key word, which “both side” bitches like to ignore is, currently. As in they are doing these things right now, not 60 years ago when the parties flipped, not 30 years ago when crime reached its peak, and we certainly aren’t talking about 155 years.

The reason we are talking about right now should be pretty obvious to anyone but let me know if I need to explain that to you as well.

Ironically, the reason we aren’t talking about past transgressions is because, as you already stated, a lot of those offenses were instituted by people no longer alive and they may no longer be in power and as I just got done explaining to you, supported policies of the past are no indication of their support in the present (see the 90’s crime bill).

So now you should fully understand the context of this thread and you should also now understand why your post was a blatant use of bothsideserism and why you were called out on it.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but you appear to want to levy yours free from criticism. So go ahead and walk away but don’t pretend you left because of the quality of the discussion.

I definitely agree with this. We recently built a house. The lot we built on was not on the list of available ones for sale. We asked when it will be available and were told they just denied someone last week. We thought nothing of it and moved on. The next day, the person called and said the builder would sell the lot to you. We put the deposit down and signed the contract that evening. When we left, my wife said to me that we were “profiled” in this sale. She went on to say that we were the people the builder wanted in that lot. I agreed with her once she brought it up. This happens more than we think. We built there, but I think about that often. I am not privy to the dialog, but one has to ask, why did they sell to us when the week before they would not. The previous buyer was also offering more than similar lots listed for. We did not and actually got it at a lower price than most. Makes you think a bit.
