You can tell the character of a country by how it treats it's poorest, sadly the USA has lost the can-do pioneer aspect of helping your fellow American out and working together. Now it's "F-you what can you do for ME?"

The short-sighted immature social darwinism of the right and its love of heaping the ills of the world on the poor instead of looking at the big picture is just another sign of the USA in decline. Folks have no insight in struggle anymore since from cradle to grave they have bought into thinking all there is in civilization is being consumerist drones. With personal gratification being first and foremost as wealth accumulation is literally tied to ones ego through watching endless commercialization of a once rich tapestry of culture, thus we tear the place apart thinking of only ourselves and immediate family. Its sad how the mighty have fallen. A culture turned into sociopaths heavy on instant gratification with narcissistic self destructiveness can not adapt to a changing world. People need to turn off the TV sets and shut down the old mass media monopolistic entities that have literally shit into our collective culture for a few quick bucks soon -or we like all self destructive junkies inevitably will consume ourselves.

A better benchmark for concern about the poor is how much money, time and effort each person personally donates to that specific cause. The cause of making the disadvantaged lives better. I'm a right winger, but I bet there's not many on the left that do as much as I do on the subject (as little as it is). So put up your time, effort and money or shut up already.

What a crock. We all know why conservatives supposedly "donate" more then others, to game the tax system they hate so much. It's the same BS as scapegoating the folks on welfare, (besides the arrogant stereotyping of minorities) in the end conservatives are just jealous someone may be gaming the system more then they are at the moment. This forum is full of examples of conservatives chiming in about how corruption in welfare are such good deals they would like to get a piece of the action in. It seems like a joke but it always comes from one side. Its obvious to those of us who have a knack at paying attention to the 2 bit hustlers out for themselves in life.

whatever happened to, "if you do not work, you will not eat!" it was a founding premise of our country. i'm tired of people trying to screw over their fellow man for "free money." i met an army recruiter who was trying to develop sleep apnea just so he could draw a disability check.

it drives me insane that there are "poor" people with multiple TVs, cell phones, and gaming consoles. if you want to see truely poor people, go to another country. jesus, just cross into tijuana and see how good we have it here.
