We all know that AMD's Thunderbirds are fast and cheap... but, disregard Speed and Price and just think about overall stability/ realiability and ease of setup/ use of the following:

Intel CPU with Intel Chipset like BX or i815

AMD CPU with VIA Chipset like KX or KT

I hope I set this Poll thing up right, first time trying it :)

If we were comparing older AMD chipsets to the BX, I'd say intel, but the latest chipsets have been really solid. I even built a KX133 system, running Win2k and 95, not a problem at all :)

I'd rather have AMD/AMD.

Assuming the same quality manufacturer for the board utilizing the chipset...AMD/AMD, AMD/VIA, Intel/VIA, Intel/Intel, when any of them are properly set up, they should possess the same level of stability.

or better yet AMD/Intel would be cool :)

~~Right!

I bet a T-Bird on a newer version of BX would RULE!

The only reason I stayed away from AMD is VIA chipsets.
With my crazy setup I manage to have enough problems on Intel/Intel; forget VIA.
My last AMD CPU was a K6 166@200 on a TX MB - it was flying in Windows and compressors like RAR and ARJ but sucked in Quake.

Why disgegard them ? because we are talking ONLY stability.. not which one is better overall for your money etc.

Because if money wasnt an object everybody would always buy the best available parts & Stability would Never be an issue.

Never used a Via, but heard they've made great strides this past year. But I've read many posts with ppl complaining of probs .. like here where people say it has probs w/ the Radeon.

Have CUSL2 w/ P3-700 @938, W2K, WinME, Whistler Pro - all very stable .. moreso than previous system - BH6/C300a @464.

Radboy:

That must've been something to make me feel bad, "1120Mhz on CUSL2, only 1000 on MSI 815E, CUSL2 is DA BOMB"... hahaha, had a good laugh.

RadBoy.... why the hell are you linking a topic on a VIA chipset for intel? Is that even in the poll? No VIA/AMD is and thats a very different story.

i have little experience with both AMD CPUs and VIA chipsets, so i cant compare. but i will put in a good word for intel/intel combos. i am running a P3 700e @ 1050 mHz rock solid on a CUSL2 (i815E). my system is super stable and reliable. my old system was a Dell XPS R350. although it is a dinosaur by today's standards, i have to say it was the most stable system i have ever used, and it wasnt even custom built. the XPS R series was a P2 350, 400, or 450 mHz on an intel SE440BX mobo. putting the entire system setup aside, this was the most stable mobo i have ever used (dead even w/ my CUSL2).

taking the best components for stability for both amd and intel, i'd have to say they're even imo, although i don't have that much extensive experience with a lot of intels or amd's, just 4 of them, 3 amd's and 3 intels.

//edit
whoops, i mean 6 of them.
