Vote accord, but, I haven't driven any of the current models and never any of the 4cyl models so I'm just guessing based on what I've read.

I own a 96 v6 Camry.

Has the rest of the car been solved? I would definitely consider this because they're nice cars, except that with the far and away inferior reliability, even compared to the altima, it's hard thinking seriously about a volkswagen.

Can it be had for 20k off the lot?

Taxes in? Likely not.

Otherwise, yes.

Check your coil packs!!! :)

LOL I almost spat my coffee onto the monitor.

I like the Altima (I am not much of a dash stroker) but I think the Accord is the winner here. The Altima looks better and has a bit more power, but the Accord is such a well-rounded car.

Know better than what?

The Passat is an extremely reliable car and is a Consumer Reports Best Buy.

have you evern been in a lexus ?
I'm guessing no, because you can't get much quieter than the interior of an LS430.

It's virtually dead silent. :Q

Lexus does have a 4cyl, but it's not in the US :(
It's the 3S-GTE with a 6 speed tranny :)

1) I was standing in the university parking lot a few days ago. It was about 6 PM and was very quiet outside. I was putting some stuff in my backpack that was sitting on top of my car's hood when this chick walked up and got into a new Accord. I was standing 2 FEET away from it... when I turned around it was half way out of the parking space and I hadn't heard anything. (not deaf)

2) I was going to a few dealers with a friend a few weeks ago, he was test driving cars. We were looking at a 4-cyl accord, and the sales guy walks up and asks if we want to take a look inside. He opens it up and says "watch this" he puts the key in the igition and turns it... nothing. I was almost ready to start laughing at him because I thought there was something wrong with the car when I looked at the tach and saw that it was hovering around 1.5k.

Accord no contest. Camrys are boring to drive.

Altimas have terrible resale value in comparison to the accord and the altimas interior materials are griped about all the time in car magazines as being sucky :p

N8magic I'm not that easy am I? We both know that, Passat 6 cylinder aside, the 4 fares badly and the golf and jetta are among jd power's worst cars for reliability ;)

They are all American made now!

Though about 1/4 of the Camrys are still made in Japan.

I would never buy any of them....but if I had to choose...it would be the Camry I think.

As for reliability, being built in JAPAN does make a difference.
I read before in another thread, where someone with an Audi had minor problems, nothing major. I believe it was Millenium who said that.

My car didn't have a single incident. Nothing minor or Major.

LOL, the 4-cylinder Passat only fared badly because of the coil pack issue which was resolved some time ago.

Quit trying to drag the Golf and Jetta into this discussion, as we're talking about the Passat here. Attempted redirection will win you no points with me pal. ;)

Fact is, you can't find any faults with newer (> 2001.5) Passat so you try and drag in VW's most notoriously unreliable models to support your arguement.

You lose. :p

Accord easily. The Camry is bloated and should be sold as a Cadillac. The Altima puts too much emphasis on sportyness and it shows through the crappy interior. I also hate the rear end of the Altima. Accord has the best combination of comfort and handling making it at least interesting to drive. And while the Altima has more power and the Camry similar power I know the Camry's 4-banger feels lethargic at best and I can't really comment on the Altima but its not all that much faster then the Accord if at all.
