This shouldn't even be a question I suppose .. but the Acer is so damned fugly compared to the Compaq, and I've already got Ubuntu running flawlessly on the Compaq and I'm really worried about getting Linux to fly on the Acer. The Acer seems to be designed for buisness travelers and the Compaq for the home user, though the Acer clearly has the power edge on the Compaq. What should I do? Like I said, this should be an easy choice, but I haven't slept in two days and I'm confused? :(

What are you using it for?

Either way it looks like the Acer absolutely kills the Compaq so I would choose that one regardless of fugliness.

Just general use really, maybe some light gaming but I've got a desktop system for that. I just threw Linux on my current laptop and I just use it for schoolwork, music, DVDs, and occasionally Warcraft 3 or some other old game, the Acer may handle WoW to a degree better than the Compaq so perhaps that a bit here and there, but I don't really plan on gaming on a laptop when I have a 21" widescreen and a gaming rig set up. :p

it just goes down to how much looks matter. with the acer, u get double the hard drive capacity, dual-core turion vs single-core sempron, dvd-burner, double the ram, better graphics, bluetooth if it matters....there isn't one thing the compaq has that's better than the acer's. they are both equal in price, right?

Yeah, equal in price. I was just so thrilled to have a fully functional Linux system again (went back to Windows on the desktop for gaming) and so far the Acer is proving to be far more difficult than the Compaq as far as kubuntu installation/functionality works .. we'll see what I can do over the next day or so, I'd hate to go with the inferior hardware of the Compaq (single 32 bit core vs double 64 bit core, 512 vs 1024 RAM, dvd burner vs cd burner, etc.) just because of Linux.

430 for the Compaq, 600 for the Acer. However, I got them both for free.
