From the desk of a country bumpkin(hic) a.k.a. me,
Recently in http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=38&threadid=362497, the Anandtech Moderators sent AT Forums members(many being dedicated Nefs) sprawling on the ground. Although as the thread played out and the neffing continued, the mods appeared to have been spread out thin in an attempt to combat a growing disorder among the populance of our humble forums(yes our humble forums, as in AT forums members, not mods).
Through this war, the following threads have become of interest:
how do I make a link
http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=38&threadid=365449
Although possibly somewhat of a bother, this thread seems to be a genuine question that any one of the more handicapped or clueless members would post. I see no reason for banning it, personally.
How do you become an Anandtech Mod?
http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=38&threadid=365288
Although this person could have used the search button, I doubt that the vast majority of AT forums users would have. Who in here actually searches for all similiar questions before posting about them? I do, however see that this thread appears to have gotten stale towards the end.
**** the Buffalo Bills
http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=38&threadid=365273
I'd have to completely agree with the mods here. The title speaks volumes about the thread(sorry for borrowing and modifying that quote).
Does size matter?
http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=38&threadid=365200
Interesting. Guess I never thought I'd see this hit OT(although I should have). Perhaps there's a college course where these people can discuss this. Anyway this definitely isn't suitable for the forums, although it is rather funny.
Why is it....
http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=38&threadid=344136
Another politically-related thread that went sour. Good reason for locking it.
We just had an Earth Quake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=38&threadid=364981
Although there's very little information of value here, the title is useful(unless if you actually want to watch the news, I don't). On the other hand the language was kind of offensive, I guess.
Philosophical Assignment
http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=38&threadid=364963
Definitely justified. This was a neffing congregation waiting for a place to happen.
LOL - Compaq for blondes - LOL
http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=38&threadid=364817
Repetitious.
No beer and no TV make Homer go crazy
http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=38&threadid=364638
Disturbing. Repetition in the linear sense.
You ever think how much time you spend on the crapper?
http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=38&threadid=364659
I think the name speaks for itself.
Midgets
http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=38&threadid=364646
This isn't exactly a suitable topic(curious as it may seem).
.
http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=38&threadid=364614
Here's either a nef or an extremely bored person. Oddly enough, people actually created a conversation out of this.
My roommate, Pamchenko
http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=38&threadid=364623
This person's emotions seem more volatile than most harmful chemicals. Definitely not a suitable topic.
YOU ARE GOING TO HELL...
http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=38&threadid=364587
Comical, but smelling of neffism.
The above threads are all the locked threads I found for the day up to the time at which I started to write this thread. OF these, in my opinion, only 2 have any real value. As a result, I am inclined to support the mods, for the most part. Although I don't like the idea of mods anymore than the next guy, I do believe that they're the best solution to the problems ont he AT forums, and that there is no alternative solution that's reasonable(feel free to disagree). I must, however, note that the mods have stooped pretty low today.
Mod Comments(a few fromt he rules thread):
As I said to Pretender, please remember before making critical, slanderous remarks: mods are people too.

I'm not sure how I'm supposed to take that, loogie. I can definitely feel the sarcasm oozing through the post, but at the same time, I know that you aren't trying to piss me off. This place is neither a place for stupid/useless posts or for pseudo-intellectuals to flex their mental might; it is a "A public meeting place, a Pub, if you will... A place for computer junkies to boldly post Off Topic... Things you might want to tell everyone... Or things you wouldn't say to anyone else."
As Russ posted, bandwidth is not free, and we have to draw the line somewhere. It is our job to decide where to draw that line, and I know that you understand where it is drawn.

Shux,
Fun is not banned, it is just strictly moderated.
In all honesty, "Butter" would probably be locked now, despite being the classic thread that it was; things are different, as you noted, when you have 44,000 more members. One butter is fine. Five butters is hard to deal with. 50 butters?
You get the point.

We never said that there is no room for improvement
on our part, after all,we are human just like some of our members

Sorry Dexion, but as someone posted earlier, this is a benevolent dictatorship (oligarchy might be more accurate, though), and not a democracy. You do have an option if you do not feel the mods are doing a good job: leave. It is a simple as that. I am not advocating that you do so, as you seem interested in holding a discussion on the matter; to suffice, though, there will not be any say by the general populace in who is/isn't a moderator.
AnandTech Moderator
Don't start.

The last one kinda makes me wonder. In the end I hope this proves somewhat useful as a general summary of the justification of the mods' actions today. Any intelligible additions, comments, and/or suggestions are welcome as always.
Thanks in advance!
