No wonder one UN agency thinks the number of Indian infections will rise to 12m by 2015. The government itself, in the shape of its National AIDS Control Organisation, has said that even if it achieves its own objectives 9m Indians will be infected by 2010. America's CIA predicts 20m-25m by that date.

Oh, yeah. I completely agree. There is no excuse, but I still do feel sorry for the people that contract it and they do not know. Especially in 2nd and 3rd(and worse) world countries where education is lacking. It's just sad.

Ideally, the vaccine would be cheap and easy to manufacture. If not, that might hinder things in some countries.. But we could almost wipe it out in a single generation in the Western World.. that would be incredible.

I don't think I've seen such a world-changing medical advancement in my lifetime. I hope I do get to.

was on pbs a couple days ago about it.. frontline or something, i forget. rather disturbing. they had this one woman who was forced into an arranged marraige with an infected man. women have zippo rights in marraige, so they become infected. the men if they use protection, only use them somtimes:p serious smackdown on social customs/taboos is required.

It's natural population control. HIV is the variable to balance the equation. Humans aren't at the top of the food chain. Deer are kept in check by hunters because wolves are gone, now humans may be kept in check by AIDS since the other diseases are under control.

I agree - the human population needs something to counteract it's huge growth.

no, world population is about 6b now. it can support more. look at those surveys by UN or WB, by 9b, world population WILL decline. those people in developed countries aren't producing enough to keep the population up.

you gonna be jealous those guys in singapore. the government is making them to get married. massive tax discounts, free dating service, etc. ;)

i guess thats true. pop explosion in parts of india rather creepy. parents keep having kids until they have atleast two boys, which pushes average kids way way up. will take more then even aids to make any real dent. probably why countries don't seem to care much

So are americans, but many of us use these things called "condoms" and other methods of "birth control".

problem as more teens take to western lifestyle.. free casual sex will ream and increase in pregnancies (which probably will get aborted without parents knowing).

I know when i was in india, i saw that trend and that was a good what.. 6-7 years back.

america is also a well developed country with a fraction of the population of india. life is so bad there (esp in rural areas) that people dont care if they get aids

but awareness is going up. in the cities most educated people use protection
