POLL: age related to political view?

hey guys, i'm just running this poll to see if age is related to the way one leans politically... everybody can vote here, i just wanna see the results really...
i'm 18-30, conservative...

ahh yes, if thise belongs in P&N i'll move it.. its not really a political thread though, just a poll really..

Show me a young Conservative and I'll show you someone with no heart. Show me an old Liberal and I'll show you someone with no brains. -- Winston Churchill

I think the older I get, the more pragmatic and independent I get. I had been getting more and more conservative with age, but the present administration has been driving me in the opposite direction. I am feeling more and more alienated by the fact that the executive branch seems to have been overtaken by religious zealotry (it's hard to find a better example than the fact that the Attorney General does not dance on the basis that it might incite lustful thoughts, but President Bush's $1.5 billion "pro-marriage initiative" comes close, as does his opposition to stem cell research and his push for a constitutional amendment against gay marriage).

old liberals tend to either be poor/underachievers or they got their money from their mommy/daddy

Your poll ages are way too encompassing. i think the 20s are when a lot of people switch to a more conservative view.

Great quote. So true.

The correct quote is "Any man who is under 30, and is not a liberal, has not heart; and any man who is over 30, and is not a conservative, has no brains" 🙂

yeah i know.. i didnt want to have too many choices though cause then it becomes a pain.. what do you suggest?
break up the 18-30 to 18-24 and 24-30?

While I am fiscally conservative and socially liberal (libertarian) I find myself often labeled as "conservative" in political debates. I also tend to vote conservative more often than liberal for the very reason that while social conservatives rarely get their agendas passed, fiscal liberals tend to have far more success and appear to me as far more dangerous to my social, and economic liberties.

and very stereotypical.
Most stereotypes have at least an ounce of truth to them. In thise case it's got a pound of it.

When I was in unversity every person there was a Liberal - myself included. Now I'm basically on the fence, and I think I always will be.

These concepts are problematic in the context of our present administration, which is spending far more wildly than its democratic predecessor. Other than Medicare and Social Security (which are presently profitable, something that can't and won't be true once all the baby boomers start cashing out of the working economy), our government spends $1.50 for every dollar it takes in. If you're looking for fiscal responsibility nowadays, don't look to the republicans.

He's right - it's kinda difficult to become more conservative when they do sh*t like that 🙂

I'm exactly the same. Thanks for saving me some writing 😀

I'm more of a moderate. I don't agree with the extremes on either side but I tend more towards conservative. Certainly not a liberal.

Download the most recent GSS survey to get a little more scientific view of the data 🙂 I've cranked out a lot of SAS data on this I could pass on to you, if you are really interested...

44 and my social views align more to the liberal side, although I don't support many of the extreme viewpoints and tend to be fiscally conservative.

i guess i have no heart because im 20 and conservative. socially and economically.

the governemnt ONLY needs to protect the homeland and enforce the laws. Leave the social engineering and moral/ethical debates to society and churches,

I have always been conservative, in high school it wasn't much of an issue as it was private, however it was much to the chagrin of my fellow classmates when I was in college, it being one of the most liberal campuses in the country.

I tended to be more conservative when younger. Now I choose not to pigeonhole myself. I tend to be socially conservative on some issues, and more liberal on others. Fiscally, money means less to me. I am not the contents of my wallet. I therefore tend to be more fiscally liberal although I am not for handing out cash willy nilly. People should work, but sometimes people need a hand, and if that means a temporary handout so be it. Also people put faith in the Free Market like they used to in god. Free markets are a good thing if not carried to far, like anything else, but companies are all about profit. Not all things that are of value are served by this philosophy.
