Poll: 70% of Republicans still don't think Joe Biden won the election. Why?

Why do 70% of Republicans still think Biden was not legitimately elected?

It's the fragile ego of a bad loser, combined with party before country tribalism, all nurtured by decades of right wing propaganda. When you've already warped a religion with the Book of Daniel, corrupting a political party with a cult of personality is as easy as breathing (sans mask, of course). The American conservative has long been addicted to outrage, now they're addicted to sedition.

Pretty misleading title. That 70% number is a separate poll of: Q5. Thinking about the results of the 2020 presidential election, do you think that Joe Biden legitimately won enough votes to win the presidency, or not? No, 32%.

(Respondents who say Biden did not legitimately win enough votes to win the presidency, N=322) Q5a. (Do you think there’s been solid evidence of that), or (is that your suspicion only)? 73%.

edit: Also, this poll was not conducted to Republicans only (as the title suggests).

A total of 1,004 adults were interviewed by telephone nationwide by live interviewers calling both landline and cell phones. Interviews were conducted in English and Spanish. Among the entire sample, 32% described themselves as Democrats, 25% described themselves as Republicans, and 43% described themselves as independents or members of another party.

What I got out of that is that 1000 people don't screen their phone calls and have nothing better to do than talk on the phone with a survey company.

I guess these are part of that group of people who drive around with their phone to their ear because that are to stupid to figure out how to pair their phone with their late model car.

No, the title is not misleading. You didn't look far enough into the PDF. Yes, 30% of all Americans believe the Big Lie. Then look at page 6 where it shows that 70% of republicans believe it.

Ah thanks for pointing that out. So 17.5% of those polled.

The poll suggests the share of Americans who believe that falsehood has held roughly steady since just before he took office in January at 30%. Those doubts are concentrated among Republicans, 70% of whom say they do not think Biden won enough votes to be president.

Now that this is settled what is your vote?

Polls can yield wacky results. Depending on how you word it, you could probably get over 10% of respondents to say they think the moon is made of cheese.

That said, this country in general (maybe the world) is hell-bent on ignoring facts and evidence when they form their beliefs, instead seeking out "facts" that fit their already-formed beliefs. There is no shortage of high-tech snake oil (social media) that is being peddled out there to supply them these "facts". Personally I think human brains are not wired to be able to handle it, the only way to win is not to play (get the hell off facebook and stop getting "news" from youtube and worse).

One side seems way, way more susceptible to this belief-over-facts than the other, perhaps mainly because they are older, more religious and less educated. My right-wing coworker is middle-aged and highly-intelligent though, and he believes quite literally that Bill Gates is trying to depopulate the earth with his vaccine involvement, so there's more to it. It might just be that many people are just so partisan that they will never, ever admit they could have been wrong about something. Again, I see this far more on one side than the other, ymmv.

This is at least the fifth poll yielding the same result, with 70% +/-2% of republicans saying they believe the Big Lie. This result is rock stable over many, many polls. There is nothing "wacky" about this poll. The question wording is totally straight forward like ever other poll inquiring about this topic.

7 in 10 republicans think that Biden did not legitimately win the election. It's just a fact. Sorry.

I am not trying to be the devil's advocate here, but this was just approximately 1000 people, and may not reflect the views of majority of Republicans. Furthermore, how do we know for sure if it was not 10 ,000 people who were part of the survey and the results were not cherry picked? In this time of the world, you just can't believe everything on the internet. We all know that Donald Trump lost, the problem is their claims that illegals voted is what is causing this issue.

How do we know that you aren't actually Elvis, hiding out all these years, waiting for the opportunity to play a total moron on the internet?

What five different polls all from well known reputable pollsters has to do with "the internet" is something apparently only you know.

This might be the single most idiotic post this past month on P&N. Guys, we have a winner.

The OP did not make the claim in their OP that the results of the poll are the same as that in 5 other polls. I did not know about the other polls, so you are right and I am wrong, sorry about that.

As for your last comment, are you claiming that MAGAS and Trump never made the false claims of illegals voting?

I mentioned all the other polls in the post right above yours. If you hadn't read it, fine, but these polls have been going on since November, and have been repeatedly discussed. Five polls is a conservative estimate BTW. That's just what I've personally read about.

As for your last comment, are you claiming that MAGAS and Trump never made the false claims of illegals voting?

Of course they did. They also said voting machines were hacked. They also said the postal service was monkeying around with ballots. They also said poll workers were purposefully miscounting.

They have ZERO evidence to prove any of it. They were shot down in court 60 times because they came to court without a shred of proof.

It's all a fraud. And you're giving credence to it. Look at the thread you just started.
