The jukebox is huge though, it's the size of a CD player. The size difference between the mini and regular isn't that much?

nope, the reg ipod and the ipod mini is like.... a regular deck of cards, and a smaller deck of cards.

Where would I stick the regular Ipod though? There is an armband for the mini but I don't think there is one for the Ipod

you can get cases that have armbands or belt clips. although, i guess thats the downside, you have to buy a case. but, imho, i think 50 bucks for 16 extra gigs is worth it.

I personally would get the mini....I don't need my entire MP3 collection with me at all times. I even doubt I would come close to putting a 1000 songs on there...there just isn't that many songs Id like to hear on a particular day. I have 10K+ mp3s, but would probably only put 400/500 on my ipod.

In case you didn't gather it already, I wouldn't care about capacity, and the mini is smaller(of course) so I would go with the mini.

my 3g ipod is always in the case that came with it, unless it is on the dock, doesn't really have any scratches, the stock apple case is actually pretty good, and you can the 20 gig 3g refurb for the same price as the mini. The dock and the case are nice, I have never really used the remote though. The 3g is feels really solid also, the buttons don't move and it is completely enclosed. I have never jogged with it though so I can't help you there, I can tell you that it has a 32 meg buffer and you can walk really fast with it in your backpocket and it doesn't skip.

Go for either the 3g or 4g if you want the best price/stuff ratio. You can get a nice case for a few bucks from www.radtech.us if need be. Also, lots of 3rd party vendors sell arm bands for the regular sized iPods (which are only a tiny bit bigger than the mini anyway). I say go with the regular size... there are tons of people that use them in the gym at my school... they are very small... smaller than a deck of cards... you'll be fine... you don't need the mini unless you want to throw away that 16gb of space for the money...

Where the sun doesn't shine LOL j/k. I just had to say that when I saw "where to stick it."

Check out ipodlounge for accessories and such. I have the 4gen 40gig and a friend of mine has the mini. There isn't much difference in size; it's mostly weight. I use the black belt clip ($39) when I go running with it. Just make sure your running shorts have a drawstring so you can tighten the waistline and give you clip something solid to hold on to.

I use a 3g ipod to go jogging. The armbands made for the ipods cost like 30 bucks. But i got this at target for 10. It fits the ipod perfectly and stays snug on your arm as you jog. Just cut out the mesh inside and you'll be able to access the controls. It's made of neoprene as well so it won't scratch the ipod.

I would get an Ipod Mini. When you're looking at specs b/t the Mini and 4th gen it doesnt seem like its much smaller b/c you're looking at 2 already small things.

When you actually put the two physical ipods next to each other the difference is big. The 4G ipod is about double the width of the mini.

i had a 3rd gen 20g ipod, and bought the mini when they came out. i kept the 20g as a backup HD, and in case i wanted to take my entire library w/ me anywhere. well, after 2 weeks i didn't use the 20g ipod at all, but was taking my mini everywhere. although the size difference might not look substantial in pictures, IRL there's a huge difference when you use it for jogging. the biggest impact isn't so much the size difference, but the weight difference. i sold my 20g ipod and haven't regretted it since. i love my mini and wouldn't trade it for any other player out there, not even a 4g 40gb ipod.

It works OK if you aren't too much of a spas... the buffer is big enough that if your not violently shaking when its loading youll be alright.

But to be realistic a solid state media MP3 player is a better running companion - just that some people can't afford to have both a HDD and solid state media player, so they use their HDD running.

On a sidenote, I can't believe they dont give the carrying case anymore, even with the 40gb, and they have the nerve to ask $40 for the thing on their website.

Id guess a lot of iPod owners will go elsewhere to find carrying cases.

I'm not talking about skipping so much as the hard drive's life expectancy (although I'll admit I'm no expert on their construction & tolerance to shaking) - can all that shaking affect its longevity? And if you sweat a lot when jogging that might cause additional problems since sweat contains salts and could be corrosive to electronics - better a cheap $50 128mb flash player than a $300+ one.

Agreed but some people prefer to have an iPod for travelling, etc. b/c they can have all their songs on it (nt likely on a flash player)

The effects on the HD are something to think about, many people do jog with iPods though, and at least in my own experience, I've never seen any problems. (not like that says anything conclusive)

As for the sweat thing the iPod is fairly sealed, not waterproof but sealed... and hopefully you have it in a case that protects it further.

Now if you drip sweat from every pore, maybe you shouldnt run with any electronics

I run with a 4G and an Xtreme Mac Sportswrap and that works pretty well. Just be sure not to put your Sportswrap in the dryer, as I stupidly did after machine washing and forgetting it was there.

My brother just got a new 4G for warranty and it's pretty sweet. I've had a 2G for two years but would go for the mini if I were buying now. But the 20G 4G is pretty damn small.
