I can get a 42" 1080p for about 1095 or a 47" 1080p for about 1585. I looked at sizes at Best Buy and the 47" is a LOT bigger.. like maybe 25% more real estate.

However, the room I am going to use it in is small... only about 16x20 feet. I will probably live here at least one more year... after that .. I have no idea.

I do plan to keep the TV basically until it breaks... 5-10 years or even longer.

Models: Toshiba Regza 42 or 47 HL167.

I hear it has a *slight* green tint issue.... saw it at Best Buy, and wasn't too worried about it.

For $500, I'd stick with the 42. I have a living room about the same size as yours and 42 is the right size. 50" would've worked well too, but the price difference was big. $500 can get you a receiver and a set of Fluance speakers.

Updated with model info. I do already have a sound system. Fairly decent Onkyo... on the other hand, I am spending money on this TV that I probably should be putting into a savings account instead....

I just measured my TV stand, and the 41" length of the 41" TV is HUGE. My room really isnt that big either.. I am leaning toward the 42". I doubt my next living room will be much larger.

Ugh, just talked to a friend with a 50" he says you can never have big enough. Now leaning toward 47" haha..

bigger is better, we have a 50" DLP and i wish it was 56" or 60"

its ridiculous what we paid for this thing about 2.5 years ago. luckily we got the extended warranty b/c the ballast failed once and the entire DMD board was replaced a few months ago. I'm hoping it breaks again cuz then i'll get everything minus the warranty refunded!

Problem is if you get the small one you will always think about why you did not getthe bigger TV.

Costco just started carrying the new 52inch LCD from Vizio. Its only $2200. The 47 from them is $1500.
