To upgrade to a 3.2ee from my a64 3200 would cost me about $200... before selling the a64 chip and mobo. Is the 3.2ee really that much better?

The fact that you already have the A64 is reason enough to keep it.

It would not be a major upgrade if at all in many applications and just not worth $200.

Bask in the knowledge that you already have a great chip there.

I'm pretty sure the ee is atleast a little faster then the 3200+(I'm running off memory to lazy to look at benchies again. If price wasn't a factor and you didn't already have a working chip and if I had info on how long you intend to keep the chip I might have said go with the ee and this is if it was only a choice between those two chips. Go buy a ps2 or some water cooling or extra harddrive or a better video card all would be money well spent compared to getting the ee.

the extreme edition is about the worst cpu purchase you can ever make. first off, the athlon fx class is faster. then, its also cheaper. keep the 3200+ and upgrade something else, like ram or videocard.

If you can get this for $200 before selling old stuff, buy it and sell it again. The ee chips are pretty expensive, and you can probably ebay it for more than a sane person would pay for it.

Or get the EE and sell the AMD setup. Either way your performance will be similar and you'll make money.

Having an athlon 64 is a better wow factor then any p4 imo.

If you want more speed, sell the 3200 and get a 3700 ! The EE is a downgrade for some apps, and definitely NOT worth $200 more. The 3700 might be worht it depending on what you do.

I'll fourth that motion. What is it like $600 extra for 2mb of L3 cache. If I were to spend that much for a chip I would get a FX.

That EE could be an overclocking monster, so if you overclock it's something to think hard about.
