Its High School people. Don't get too worked up. When they go off to college they start questioning everything they are taught.
which is probably less than half of the kids going onto college, probably less than 1/3.

exactly

oh yeah forgot that public schools are like that.

<- went to a Catholic school where 98% went to college.

High school contains a good distribution of the population, including Dittoheads and the like. I suspect it's these kinds of sheep that support this.

I don't have a problem with people having differing beliefs than I, I just have a problem with the Rush Limbaugh listeners who pride themselves on the fact that they unquestioningly agree with everything he says. I'm pretty sure the Bible mentions something about, "live your own life and think for yourself, re-re" a few times.

I don't get all worked up over what high school students think about anything. They aren't qualified to think quite frankly. They should stick to learning. They'll figure out in about 10 years that they didn't really have even half of a fvcking clue when they were in high school.

Brain eating zombies would starve to death in your average high school.

While I tend to agree with your posts, I disagree with you here. I hate people with this attitude. I'm 16, and I've got a lot of friends who are either in their 3rd/4th year at college or graduated, so I've always been ahead as far as paying attention to what goes on in the real world. Whenever I try to voice my opinions on things, regardless of how strong or sensible they are, people brush them off because I'm 16.

I'm not saying that what you say isn't incorrect, because I agree that MOST high school students don't have a fvcking clue, but you've gotta try to at least find the few that have a semblance of a clue, and are willing to learn more, because otherwise you'll turn them off from it.

But yes, whenever politics or a major national issue comes up, I try not to talk about it with my friends from school, because they're fvcking morons.

I'd say by your post that you are in agreement with me actually. :D

Still, I don't mean to come off as completely closed minded against anything a high school aged person says. Listen to it, respect it but don't go getting your panties in a bunch because of it.

I'd actually seriously question the validity of that poll before discussing the results of it.

Headline: 2/3 of US population completely baffled when it comes to numbers and they will believe any half assed statistic you throw at them and never question it.

I think what is shocking is that you attribute this entirely to conservative minded folks.

As if the leftists never try to limit freedom and increase government control of business, right???

get over yourself. im almost 20, and by the time you are my age, you will realize how stupid you just sounded. you dont know anything at 16. i dont know much now, but certainly a lot more than 4 years ago. just ease off the pity party and try to keep learning about the real world.

you will find that the reason you are probably ignored is because of presentation. ever heard of teenage angst? extremism? sensationalism? you did a bit of that in your last paragraph, but its no different than any other teenager. i know that because i still am one.

most of the people on this board are 5 or more years older than me, which makes them older and wiser than you and i both. listen to them because neither of us really have a clue what its like to be in their shoes and experience things we havent even thought about yet.

Unfortunately, the competition among newspapers has led to too much sensationalism.
Equally unfortunate is the lack of intelligence and ability to craft rational decisions by a very large proportion of the public... Things get blown WAYYY out of proportion, leading to knee jerk reactions by our politicians trying to appease the public...

And, don't forget how influential the sensationalism can be...

Take this case for example:
Columbine

So over-reported... The problem with life threatening violence in schools was almost non-existent prior to Columbine... but thanks to the sensationalism, the seed of thought was planted in enough minds that suddenly there were several other cases of school shootings.

Now... is violence in schools a major problem worthy of the billions of dollars thrown at it? (I'm not trying to put a price on any potential lives saved... let's leave that out of the argument) Since 1974 (First school shooting actually happened in my hometown) there have been about 37 shootings, involving 41 people (give or take 2 or 3, I may be mistaken on my stats somewhat...)

Okay, now, lets look at what proportion of the population was in school between 1974 and the present... Roughly MOST of them. Between 3 and 4 dozen incidents among more than half of the US population? Wow, and I thought the problem was horrible... where did I get that impression?
