CKG, & Guys straighten these straying independents out.

1-17-2004 Poll: Bush Slipping Among Independents

The CBS-New York Times poll found that fewer than half, 45 percent, of independents approve of the job Bush is doing as president. In December, Bush's approval among independents had soared to 64 percent in the same poll.

Republicans strongly support Bush on all fronts, as they have for months, and Democrats are increasingly opposed to the president as the 2004 campaign heats up. So independents will be a crucial voting bloc.

"The poll found that people are evenly divided on whether they would support Bush or the Democratic candidate. But when Bush is matched against specific Democratic candidates in other polls, he has a double-digit lead against any of them. "

The majority of people are not yet paying attention.

And Bush isn't "campaigning" yet either;) He's been taking election heat for over a year now.

Or at least a few bitter democrats aren't or Dave would have known of the other polls.

Actually the fact that Bush trounces the other Dems has nothing to do with the TOPIC of this thread, which is Bush losing independent support. Unfortunately the bait was taken, but let's try to stay on topic or just stay away. Can we do that kids? :)

From the article(which etech quoted from) - "But when Bush is matched against specific Democratic candidates in other polls, he has a double-digit lead against any of them."

Yeah we already know what the weasal we have running the country now is like. We aren't to sure about taking a chance and electing an unknown Idiot who could possible be even worse. Frankly I'd prefer to keep Bush and his Neocon Handlers where they are and elect a Democratic Congress to keep them in check and Vice Versa. I think when one partyu is in the White House and the other is in control of the Congress the Checks and Balances prevents either from screwing the country up. That situation tends to keep either party from getting out of control with the Budget like it is happening right now!

Name recognition factor. Everyone knows Bush; how many people know even half of the democratic candidates?

Bush will get a SOTU boost plus they will start slinging $100M in poo (plus another $70M in Bush propaganda) very soon. As for Bush not campaigning . . . he's been distributing goodies for almost two years. But Independent voters (ie intelligent enough NOT to align themselves with lemmings) are unlikely to embrace the looting of the US Treasury.

I guess that means we won't be voting for the Dems or Bush then!

Oh, I can't wait for Bush to start campaigning! :)

He's the best player on OUR side. :)

If the guy just keeps his mouth shut-a la Calvin Coolidge-between now and November he'll probably win. Opening his mouth is a very big risk for him and the Republicans.

Never underestimate the power of stupidity. It's awesome. :) :) :)

Well I don't think Wesley Clark is a Democrat. And John Edwards is a southern Democrat . . . which brings his Democratic credentials into question as well. I wouldn't call either one a liberal. Now Dean and Kerry are liberals but they appear to be thinking liberals so there's a little hope.

The GOP will not desert Bush at this juncture . . . and considering he's the epitome of oblivious . . . my choices are limited to pseudo-Democrats or . . . is LaRouche running this year?

I can't wait for the Commercials saying he got the Weapons of Mass Destruction, got Saddam and freed the Iraqi people that love us so much.

Can't wait for the Ad where he lands on the Carrier and declares the War over and declares Victory over Terrorism too.

Can't wait for the Ad where he says more jobs have been created than lost under his watch and people are making the highest wages ever too.

Can't wait for his appeal to all of the new "Southern Citizens" to vote for him since he added them to the great Unestados De Mexico population pool too.

I would love to see Bush debate Clark. Bush is afraid to take questions from reporters, he would get torn apart by someone with the knowlege and experience of Clark.

The only thing that worries me is that Bush will probably come up with some way to dodge the debates.
