At the moment Frys is having a sale in both Polk R50 and Polk R300s Floor standing speakers, im thinking in using them along either an Onkyo 305 or 505 receiver in a 5.1 configuration, any noticeable differences in between series i should be aware off?.

I'm not too worried about the price difference is only 10 US or so, thanks for the help.

I assume you are talking about the RTi series? In that case, yes there is a difference. First the cabinets use real veneer instead of Vinyl used in the R series. Also the RTi series uses Vifa drivers. Their monitor line and R line do not.

I think he meant R50 vs R300?

haha I think your right. He through me off with the

"series i should be aware off?."

I read that as "Difference between i series" and assumed, with the lower case "i" that he meant the RTi series

whoops.

If I remember right, the R50 is simply an R300 with an additional woofer (2 vs. 1) for more low end sound.

I think the R50 is an R30 with an additional woofer but the R300 is the replacement to the original R30?

I have not heard any of these speakers though, so I don't know what to tell you.

That's right. The R300 and R150 replaced the R30 and R15. Strangely the R50 did not get the replacement.

OP, if the difference is only $10, I'd go with the R50. The extra woofer certainly won't hurt. I have a Polk setup in my livingroom with 2 R50, CSi25 (center), 2 R15 (surround), and PSW350 (sub). It sounds pretty darn good for the money IMO.

Unless the woofer is actually a different driver, an extra woofer does not necessarily increase output of low end sound. It either improves overall efficiency, increases max SPL or improves power handling.

Yeah, I was referring to the R50 VS R300 suggestion, the RTis are a little over my budget, I'm thinking in going with the R50s for now, thanks.
