polk R300

These are the newer replacements to the R30s that outpost / fry's would have from time to time.

For floorstanders, you have very few options for this pricepoint. I think those would be a solid bet if you need floorstanders. For bookshelf speakers, you could probably get something better for the same price (The insignia's from BB for example).

There might be some user opinions from AT in the past Polk speaker deal threads in Hot Deals.

Some of them:

AVSforum and AudioReview would be some other places to look for opinions.

I have the R30s currently and they're pretty good for $100. I'm not an audiophile by any means, but they sound find on music and DVDs.

Polk doesn't make a bad speaker, for the price you have to know you won't be getting mind blowing sound. But for pretty much any price point they have a speaker for, Polk is top notch. For $50 I'd jump all over these suckers

Yeah, I agree with QueBert. Polk does a very nice job with their speakers. Bang for the buck, $50 for R300's will be hard to beat. While they won't hit those low notes (no big rumble of explosions or pipe organ music for you), they do a decent job with the rest of the range. These were designed with using a subwoofer in mind to get the low frequency reproduction. Also remember that these are SERIOUSLY MARKED DOWN. I think original retail on these was ~$400 a pair. So for 87.5% off, it is hard to beat.
