A year ago with the older model it was cheaper to make two orders with one speaker in each due to the shipping calculations. I didn't check if it is still true today.

Good speakers!

Good speakers!

I just checked the shipping and it looks like they fixed the glitch. One speaker cost me $11.18 and two cost $14.95 to Indiana.

Fry's still has the glitch on shipping, its happening on the Polk r50's and the JBL Balboa 30's cost more to ship these speakers to the east coast then to buy the speaker. LOL

gotta watch Fry's atleast on the R300's they have the problem solved for now.

a t-amp may be a little bit under powered for them. though i think it would work as long as you are not expecting lots of volume.

The R50s are rated 90db/w. The T-amp is what, 6 watt RMS 8ohm? It'll probably give decent volume in a small to medium room, but I wouldn't use them together though. Probably not enough power for a wide dynamic range and might clip at high volume passages.

Anyone know of a site that has unbiased reviews for these two? Polk has a "customer review," but by gosh--all the customers sort of sound the same. Makes one wonder?

Wow...ordered them Friday night and got them today (Monday) with regular ground shipping. I'm in AR so usually takes 2-3 days from OH.

Search on avsforum. Between the 2, go R50.

I ordered a set of R50's too. I can tell you the difference in 2 or 3 days. I'll hook both up and I can switch between A and B outputs on my stereo to compare the two. The official specs just say 45-24K for the R300's and 40-24K on the R50's. Both have 20-150 watts ratings. These R300's have really great imaging, but lack punch, which I think the R50's will provide.

found this at amazon this morning

Csi3

was $130 yesterday, I believe. Now at $100 :) ($200 at Fry)

thinking of pairing this with the r50s at Fry's. I'll have to give them a listen first, though.

I received the R50's today and they are definitely better than the R300's. Much better bass, so much that I don't need my 100 watt sub. I cranked my equalizer to 10db gain on bass frequencies and they eat it up. They are very bright though so I recommend an equalizer with them to turn down the higher frequencies. I had it set to 6-12db gain on the R300's and I couldn't stand near the R50's at that level. Now they are set to 4db across from 4khz on up. Definite higher sound quality though and are noticeably louder at the same volume level.

If you just want a cheap pair and don't like turning it up to 100 watts a piece I would recommend the R300's as they are very worth the price- even better than the $200 3-way optimus pair I had before. But the R50's are incredible for the price. I think they would be worth $200 a piece frankly so they are a steal at $170 a pair shipped. I'm really thinking of getting another pair. :)

Oh...and the cabinets are all cherry, not just the face. They are also sturdier than the R300's as they have a built-in base. These are also good to 150 watts and the R300's are only to 100. I've seen some sites say both are up to 150, which is wrong according to the spec sheet that comes with them.

I edited original post to include link to R50's. They may go off sale this weekend so don't wait too long.

Do separate orders for each speaker. I got 4 R50s a while back, each on a separate order, shipped to IN was $11 a piece.

the R50s sell for $69.99/ea all the time, and have for a couple of years. They have never retailed for anywhere CLOSe to $640/pr.

How are Fry's B&M selection and prices compared to online? I'd drive the 60 miles to save $100.00 in shipping for all the speakers I was looking at...
