I question the credibility of this test, with questions like: "People from Canada should be ridiculed. Canada Dry's okay, but that's about it."

Here are my results:

and an...

Economic Conservative
(80% permissive)

I hate these tests, because you KNOW what the answer they are looking for is.. For example, they have questions like 'Walmart should be allowed to exploit its workforce'.. Agree or disagree? Well, neither.. I would argue that Walmart ISN'T exploiting its workforce, but the poll wants to pigeon hole you in based on a flawed question. Many questions in that poll were like that.. and of course you knew that if you answered that you AGREED, then you were a Right leaning person, and if you DISAGREED you were left leaning.. but no consideration that the question is flawed and does not give an accurate representation of all possible views.

I agree with you Crimson. Did I say that? I would be interested in a side poll to see how people answered this question:

A person cannot be truly spiritual without regularly attending church or temple.

I just answered honestly given the choices and did'nt try to get behind the pshychology of the testing.

Seems about right after I thought about it. I guess my problem is that last quote: You exhibit a very well-developed sense of Right and Wrong and believe in economic fairness

They say the same for everyone.:)

Some questions that I thought were funny...
It should be legal for two consenting adults to challenge each other to a duel and fight a Death Match.

It's wrong when environmental regulation puts people out of work, like when limits on logging make it harder for loggers to log logs.

Most people are too stupid to know what's best for them.

I should be able to sell my vote for cash if I feel like it.

Question about economic freedom I thought of when taking the test.. There was a question on there ...more or less... "if a company invents a cure for cancer, they should be able to charge whatever"

Now in general I would "strongly agree" since everyone should have a right to chrage whatever for thier labor and the fruits thereof. However the US government would also be "protecting" this company from compitition by giving them exculsive rights to make the product in the form of patents. Is that economic freedom? Sounds like corporate welfare and goverment sponsored/protrected price fixing.

Yes, it is. They should be free to profit from their intellectual property.

A government should exist solely to protect people's rights. One of those rights is property, both physical and intellectual.

A lot of the questions are ambiguous or just poorly thought out ("is France our enemy?," "are athletes paid too much?," etc), so I take it with a grain of salt.

Edit: I like how they put O'Reilly over the Fascist label, Osama as a Republican, and yet have Kerry as a perfect centrist. Somewhat sketchy IMHO.

Patents allow other companies to produce the drug too. They just have to pay royalties on the sales to the company that holds the patent. I'm not sure if these royalties or a set fee or a percentage, but I'm guessing percentage, meaning competition would be hard to come by. However, as is the case with most drugs, once one is patented, another company can modify it slightly so it isn't covered by the patent then sell it royalty-free, thereby creating competition. I thought that was an interesting question as well.

Heh - you just have to start worrying about what other people do behind closed doors and passing laws against it. :D

Yes, it is. They should be free to profit from their intellectual property.

A government should exist solely to protect people's rights. One of those rights is property, both physical and intellectual.

How about if someone else invents it on thier own? They are being denied the fruits of their labor by the protectionist government because X came first. Also I think you have to balance a life nessesity, like a lifesaving cancer drug, with ability to pay and company profit. This is a case I diverge from "econmonic freedom" which is'nt really free when the goverment is providing protection to one source for one product, a monoploy.

Since when is the government in the monoploy business and protecting them? And should this patent protection last forever? After all it nothing changes after 14 years, they still were the first to invent it, and should still have exclusive rights to their labor according to your standard.
