Wouldn't it be nice if we unclogged OT and moved all the religious threads and Athiest threads to P&N? Most P&N threads end up their anyway and it would stop the bickering where we are supposed to be talking about stuff that is OT. This comes up enough that it is now multiple daily topics. Might as well consolidate it all.

since splitting the P&N forum off from OT (about 5 years ago?) the main difference between starting a 'news' thread in the two forums has been the requirement for P&N threads to contain, in the first post, "original thought/commentary" by the person starting the thread. clearly 'political' threads are almost always required to be in P&N, but there has been some latitude allowed for a 'news' thread to be in one, the other or both forums based on this 'original thought/commentary' requirement

my interpretation of this has been, basically, 'serious' threads go in P&N, because if you have taken the time to construct an 'original thought/commentary', then you want to have a 'serious' discussion of the topic
whereas if you just want to post a link to a celebrity's latest DUI and don't want to get 'serious' , then you put it in OT

to tie this to threads with religious topics, if there is news related to the topic then it'd go in P&N, if it has a political element, then it'd go in P&N, otherwise it would be appropriate in OT, under the current guidelines

as i understand the suggestion, we'd change the guidelines to say 'all religious topics go in P&N'

I say we just call it what it is.

Lets have dedicated left wing and dedicated right wing forums. The left wing one will contain things about green energy, global warming and the tooth fairy. The right wing one will be full of gun and God threads.

The only rule in either one: No blows below the belt
