Politics have no place in music

*EDIT*
I know that they have the freedom of speech, and I know that politics can't be entirely separated from music, but using your popularity to push your political views on the listeners is just plain wrong. What If windows put "Vote bush" on your screen every time you booted up? The fact of the matter is, who wants to listen to politics with music in the background?

You think all songs should all be about love and flowers? Get real. Some of the best music ever created has had political views behind it. Music with real passion.

that's an absurd thing to say

it's up to the artist to to choose the topic, you can choose not to listen

that's a profoundly stupid statement.

music has always had a political message.

where would we be without "what's going on", "the hurricane", "4 dead in ohio", or countless other tunes that consoled a nation during hard times.

As much as I get annoyed by artists pushing their worldview based entirely on a touchy feely emotional agenda, I don't think there is any way to seperate life from art, and passion, which is a part of life is inherently also a part of politics, thus, the two are inseperable.

Even classical music, like Wagner had an agenda...

Some of the great songs of all time had some politic message. Yes some of the songs these days are overly obvious: "Vote for Bush! Vote for Kerry!" blah blah.. but the classics reamain the same.

Here are just some folks who have mixed politics and music:

Bob Marley, Crosby Stills & Nash, U2, Bruce Springsteen, Sex Pistols, Bob Dylan, Rolling Stones, The Who, The Cult, and the list goes on.
