You're not supposed to thank people for doing their jobs and following the Constitution or following an oath they swore to when taking office.

Thank you for making my point. New Record, it took less than 5 minutes.

Also, not supposed to thank people for doing their jobs? Glad I don't work for you. I suppose you also don't regularly thank our soldiers for their service, after all, they are just doing their job.

Scott Brown is being sworn in today. A week earlier than originally scheduled. Somehow I doubt anyone will thank Democrats.

Let's back this up. His Democratic counterpart was sworn in after 2 days, Brown had to wait considerably longer. I'm not getting why anyone would thank the Dems anymore than I would thank Bush because he invaded Iraq, but not Iran.

The title of this thread should be changed to "AHAHAHA!!! P&N as usual. Scott Brown to be seated in 3 days."

And the OP should be ashamed of himself.

Wait, you actually think anyone should thank those idiots for swearing him in after less stalling than they had planned originally??

Even if it happens today, that's still 16 days. Your intellectual dishonesty is a perfect demonstration of daily function in P&N.

3 days from the date of the OP. And if you want to talk about intellectual dishonesty, start with the fact that Scott Brown himself was in no rush to be seated once it was clear that the UHC bill would not be put to a vote without him.

It's not clear why he changed his schedule (the Boston.com article suggests that it could have to do with the upcoming NLRB appointment), but the point is that as soon as he requested, he was certified and sworn in.

You're just wrong on this. As wrong as you can be.

Yet they were able to certify and swear in Kennedy after just a day, and Tsongas after two... oops.

Because they wanted to be. Just like Brown was sworn in as soon as he asked for it. Man, talk about intellectual dishonesty. No wonder P&N is in the state it's in.

Exactly. Brown specifically requested that he not be sworn in until the 11th. And then he changed his mind and wanted to be sworn in sooner and pitched a fit like the Dems were the reason he wasn't sworn in yet. Fuck, if you ask for something and get it, don't bitch when you get it and change your mind that you want something else. This is classic republican bullshit. They pitch a fit that they want something, when they get it they complain. Like the bipartisan committee to reduce the deficit that they wanted then voted against. Or the tax cuts they clamour for and got in the stimulus package, then do nothing but bitch about the package and how Dems are raising taxes. Republicans have done nothing good for this country in 10 years and try to pin all their fuckups and failures on others. Wake up and realize it. Republicans are bad for the country and the longer they exist the worse the US becomes.

Silly rabbit, rules are for Republicans.

Brown is now in route to Washington - flying coach. Dude is a shrewd politician.

By tonight there will only be, what five appointed Democrat Senators?

It doesn't seem to matter too much whether there are 40 Republican Senators or 50, so I wouldn't worry about it.

It matters hugely. Republicans can fillibuster or block appointments now. 3/5ths majority plays in a lot of things.

I was referring to the 5 appointed Democtratic Senators. Even if you replaced them all with Republicans the Senate would be the same.

Edit: I see now. What I mean is that it makes no difference from 41 senators to 46.

Er, I voted for Kerry over Bush, but I did sit out Obama and McCain.

Here is a letter from Sec. Galvin's office on this matter.

Please note that on January 20, 2010, Secretary Galvin sent a letter to the Secretary of the United States Senate indicating that based on unofficial results Scott P. Brown had been elected as Senator in Congress for Massachusetts. However, this Office cannot issue a certificate of election until the results are certified by each of the 351 municipalities within Massachusetts. Local election officials have 15 days to certify their local election results and transmit to this Office. After the results are transmitted, a certificate of election will be issued and the successful candidate. Based on official results of the January 19, 2010 special election, Secretary Galvin sent a letter to the Secretary of the United States Senate indicating that Scott P. Brown appeared to be elected as Senator in Congress for Massachusetts. Accordingly, concerns regarding issuing the oath of office by the US Senate should be directed to the Secretary of the Senateýs office at (202) 224-3121.We hope this information is helpful.CIS

This being the case, Brown picked Feb 11., however Brown received his certification so it could be moved up.

There seems to have been a great deal of consternation about Brown being seated today.

The labor community is fuming over the expedited plan to seat Senator-elect Scott Brown (R-Mass) this Thursday afternoon, arguing that Democratic leadership is torpedoing one of its most important causes -- the nomination of Craig Becker to the National Labor Relations Board.
On Wednesday, Brown shocked political observers by announcing that he was asking Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick to sign his election certification papers and that he would present those papers to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev) the next day. The offices of Patrick and Reid, both Democrats, insist they have little institutional power to delay Brown's seating, even though the Massachusetts Republican initially pegged February 11th as his start date.

Again, Brown wasn't going to get Tsongas treatment, so there was no sense in planning to vote before he was certified, and from the Huffington Post link, there was considerable pressure to delay.

Does that mean Republicans are squeaky clean? Well if you read my posts you would see that I'm no fan of them.

That doesn't mean I'll let Dems off.

Oh, note I changed the title to appease your sensibilities.

Refresh my recollection-howmany months did it take Al Franken to get seated? How many useless appeals and delaying tactics were involved there? Even after the Minnesota Supreme Court ruled, the GOP governor was threatening a US Supreme Court appeal?

But that of course was the "good guys" so their blatant partisanship and delaying tactics were noble, right?

AL Franken ran as a joke, and now serves as one. MN is utterly retarded.
