Change . . .

Well, here in the Wild West we're getting ready for a shoot-out over how the Pollitically Correctness reflects on the community.

Way back in history, there were some 'White People' who started a settlement in the middle of 14 Indian Tribal areas -
This became known as 'The White Settlement', located 7 miles Northwest of the primative cowboy town of Fort Worth.

Fast forward by a couple hundred years and the Metropolitan Fort Worth has in it's Northwestern corner a township of 'White Settlement'.

Todays 'Political Correctness' with all their politeness want's to change the name of this district to Western Settlement -
so as to not risk offending anyone or anything.
Some of the residents are raising hell over the name change,
while others are willing to roll over and play dead. Fine with me.
Fort Worth has a very low population of minorities, mostly Hispanic,
but some Native American Indians still live in the area, as do Black and Asian families.
They don't really care.

I'd like them to call it 'Honkey Town'.

omgroflbbq I lived in that hole for about a year....

I called it "waahit suttlemunt" it would be lame to name it something else, it's the original name and it actually made my living in texas interesting becasue I got into the history of the state becasue I was curious about the weird name of the town.

no surprise the white settlement library had a kickass history section.
besides one decent hill for skateboarding on and the name the place is pretty boring, why take away about all it has?

Was it near Saddle Road & Clifford ?
That's about the only 'hill' with a road in Honkey Town.

Say it Loud ! We're White and Proud !

Voters in White Settlement overwhelming vote to afirm their stupidity.
By a margin of 92%, the residents of White Settlement, Texas give notice that they are just too damn dumb to face the 20th Century . . .
and this is the 21st Century.

We want to live in the past, back when we were proud of being racist biggots, when hating was much more cool and accepted.

1/3 of the registered voters voted - 92% solid redneck.
That's about 1,850 people out of a population of 15,400 - total dominance by an organized 12% of the ignorant.
3,700 voters - the majority, clung to their Voter Apathy, and stayed home to swill beer alowing others to set the agenda for them.

WHITE SETTLEMENT - Residents of White Settlement turned out in record numbers to reject a proposal to change their city's name to West Settlement.

More than 33 percent of the city's 7,800 registered voters cast ballots Tuesday's election, and of those, 92 percent voted against the name change proposal, one of eight amendments proposed to the city's charter.

City leaders asked voters to change the city's name in hopes of attracting more business to the suburb of 15,400 people just west of Fort Worth.

This year, sales tax has made up 40 percent of the city's $10 million budget. But a Home Depot closed recently, and Wal-Mart and Sam's Club are expected to leave in the spring for reasons officials said were unrelated to the city's name.

Although some business experts agreed with the name change, the controversial proposal attracted nationwide attention and aroused local ire.

Many residents were outraged at the suggestion that outsiders, not knowing that the city was named for its historical location amidst Indian settlements, considered the moniker racist.

More than half of the 2,607 votes were cast on the controversial amendment during 12 days of early voting, when 1,409 people voted. Another 1,198 residents turned out Tuesday, with 2,388 voting against the name change and 219 for the proposal.

Overwhelming disapproval of the name change led to a campaign to oust Mayor James Ouzts and City Council members.

Ouzts has said that he has received hate mail, e-mail, phone calls and verbal threats, both local and long distance, over his support of the name change.

After the election results were announced during a City Council meeting Tuesday night, name change opponent Marla Fontenot called on Ouzts and council members to resign, saying that they are out of touch with residents who elected them.

"I have no illusion that any of you will actually do that, so I'm letting you know that we will be starting a petition for recall," said Fontenot, who started Citizens for Fair and Common Sense Government with her husband, Nolan Fontenot "I want to let you know that we are going to clean house."

Screw that, they should leave the name just the way it is. And they should put up a sign on the road as you enter the city limit that says "It's a white thang, y'all wouldn't understand now, y'hear?"
