Personally I am disgusted with both sides; however, I generally lean towards the Republican side

1. I believe people who work hard should not be taxed for those who don?t.
2. I support small government and letting people choose
3. I support the need for a strong military
4. I support the death penalty

Republicans don't support #2. Rhetoric alone doesn't count.

HBalzer,
I'm wondering about the first part, something which I sortof agree and disgagree with

Those who are making the most money are in fact taking more advantage of what society has to offer. They are taking more from society to make more money than lower payd people. Society which is held up by the government. So shouldnt those who benefit the most pay the most?

I generally support those 4, with qualifications on items 1 and 3.

1. There are times when work might be unavailable, given a person's individual skills, intelligence, etc. In this case, I believe assistance is appropriate. However, I don't believe that assistance should be given for nothing. If one is on assistance, they should be working 40 hours, doing something of value to society, or attending classes/training towards a career that will get them off assistance.

3. I support the need for a strong defensive military. I question the need of forces left overseas from wars long over. I don't believe in imperialism or some bizarre concept of American superiority. But, if you want to place troops on the southern border and at our ports, I'm all for it.

I could support all 4 of those easily

Well this wasn't intended to be analysis of my reasons, but it appears to have become so.

The rich should be taxed more and are taxed more however many people think it is not enough and would love to tax so much that everyone was even. Kind of like Communism!

Sorry about that :)

Well I think you are going into the extreme way. It is bad for society for the gap between rich and poor to grow too much. Look at nearly all third world countries, they are trying to change that so the country can prosper.

In the US the gap is big and is only growing every year.

I'm a democrat because they match me far better than republicans on most issues. I have voted both sides, but I vote for D far more often than R.

1. I believe that people who work hard should be given the opportunity to live. 90% of those on welfare ARE working hard.
2. I support smaller governmental spending (definatly the D side in the last half century).
3. I support letting people choose (look at all the restrictions on freedoms that the Rs want).
4. I support a strong military but not a massive waste of money on a military that is far, far bigger than we need. Even if we slash our military in massive ways we'd still be #1.
5. I support the death penalty.

Looks to me like HBalzer, you'd be a democrat.

1. I believe that the government should recognize and respect individual rights
2. I believe that those who are making the most, should also pay the most (tax wise, without all these loopholes)
3. I believe that the government should take an active role in protecting the environment, whether through more federal parks or seriously slamming companies that freely dump toxins into the world.
3a. I also believe that the government should take an active role in forcing the auto companies to make more efficient vehicles and actively searching for alternative fuels
4. The government should take care of the school system, providing equal education from a school in Beverly Hills and one in Compton.
5. The government should not be afraid of the word 'tax'. It's what makes or breaks a country.
6. The government should have some sort of health care plan.
7. The government should reconsider all term limits from the POTUS on down. (6 years, 1 term for the POTUS)

I am a liberal, I hug trees, I recycle. I also support the death penalty.

Yeah I agree with that. Ideally I want to see the income tax abolished. Our nation prospered quite well right up to the Civil War when income tax was first introduced (with taxes as long as 3%, mind you). Even this was short lived though, and after the war was over this tax was elminiated. It was only in 1913, not even 100 years ago, that the income tax was really put in place.

And also wages are at a ridiculous disparity right now. Average CEO makes 430 times what the average worker makes. Back in the 80's this ratio was about 100 to 1. Now I'm not saying the wages should be equal but a ratio at a histroical high of 430:1 is just foul and something is dreadfully wrong.

2. I support small government and letting people choose

Absolutely agree. Government should be streamlined and efficient. Big government costs us alot, is invasive, and rarely gets the job done. Social programs should be kept lean.

3. I support the need for a strong military

This I disagree with. We waste so much money on our military industrial complex it is ridiculous. And all for what? To invade other countries with so that we can breed hatred throughout the world? We were always a demilitarized country except in the few wars we engaged in prior to the 20th century. But ever since WW2 we've had this permanent militarization in our country. It costs us ALOT of money and is it really helping us? We wage these questionable wars against obscure targets with reasons that are sometimes found fraudulent 50 years later or at least flakey. This just makes people accross the world question our intentions and seek ways to hurt us. All we need is a small defensive force protecting our borders. If we ever were actually threatened with invasion we could build up our army extremely quickly- let WW2 be a precedent to that.

4. I support the death penalty
Yeah I'll agree to that.

I agree with most of what is being said, I'm definitely a libertarian. The only things I saw I really disagree with, is what everyone is saying about the military. Our military has ALWAYS been "big and bad" going other places to serve our interests. It's been happening since we became a country and all the Manifest Destiny BS started up, not to mention the Spanish American War, when we took over the Phillipines and Cuba... we were just freeing them from the tyrany of Spain though, right??? It probably didn't hurt that we got foot holds in Asia and Central/South America...

Face it, the big military is here to stay, and cutting it down would only be taking away more jobs...

P.S. I'm not saying it's right, I'm just pointing out that it's not going anywhere fast.

This is the stuff of civics classes, not the real world. I grew up in a republican house, but was polarized against them by Nixon and Vietnam. Since then I have generally found the dems to be the least objectionable party. Now we have big government, big spending, big war machine, big deficit, big lies, big brother supressing free political speech: all the same stuff that polarized me 35 years ago.

1. I believe that human beings have infinite potential when they follow their bliss, as some like to put it. Therefore each human being, in order to reach great potential should be doing what it is he loves from an early age. Such a society would be wealthy beyond imagination and people who work hard and don't want to be taxed for those who don't would not either exist.

2. I support blue sky and apple pie. I support spontaneity. Your choices are too small for me.

3. I am totally opposed to the need for a military as there is no such need. We have a military because we are insane and do not follow our bliss.

4. We kill others because we are full of hate and justify our killing with rationalizations that others morally should die. Every murder is an ethical act in the mind of the killer. We show the killer we are just like him when we kill him. You kill because it is terror that has made you conform. You know nothing about the ethics that come with bliss.

Republicans don't support #2. Rhetoric alone doesn't count.

There?s some partisan bigotry if I ever saw some. Are you so caught up in stereotypes, in black and white that you cannot see the good trying to fight against the political parties that oppress?

The reason the party itself does not support these values is because it is a separate entity from the people, much like government itself. It has power, wealth. To maintain both it adopts the values of corruption and no longer becomes a party of the people, but a party for itself.
