I know somebody will look and make the obligatory Old news comment!!

http://lordsofthedrinks.wordpress.c...vivor-smashes-highscore-alcohol-in-his-blood/

A 40-year old man from Poland has smashed the record for blood alcohol concentration (BAC). The sample from his blood showed an amazing score of 1,374. For the record: specialists believe that a BAC-score of 0,4 can already be lethal. Officers of the municipal police found the man unconscious and lying on the road in the village called Tarnowskiej Woli in the province of Podkarpaciu. When they did the blood check they couldn’t believe what they saw. However a second sample in the hospital confirmed this ‘highscore’.

The incident took place at the 24th of July of this year, but the police of the municipality Nowej Dęby didn’t make the information public until yesterday (Wednesday 7th of August). The man will be able to enjoy his new record, since he survived the incident. The previous highscore of a living person according to Polish media came from another Polish guy. This 45-year old man from Maków-Kolonia had a BAC-score of 1,23. To be honest we missed this one when we published some remarkable BAC-scores some months ago.

We would like to be the first to congratulate the new record holder. Not just with his amazing test score, but also that he will live to tell the story. Now this is a fact that he can share with pride at the next party he attends.

How does he have a BAC of 1,374% exactly? What'd he do . . . replace his blood with concentrated Everclear?

That's something like 60 drinks or so. Surviving it is quite a feat, but let's not overlook the man's capacity for holding fluids.

They (Polish) use a comma in place of a decimal point.
So: it really means 1.374%, and 0.4% is usually lethal.

doesn't 0.4 = 40% ?

I thought that was how BAC worked.?

so, 1.374 is 137%? D:
I thought BAC was already in a percentage.

EDIT: According to Wikipedia:

Blood alcohol content is usually expressed as a percentage of alcohol (generally in the sense of ethanol) in the blood. For instance, a BAC of 0.10 means that 0.10% (one tenth of one percent or one permille) of a person's blood, by volume (usually, but in some countries by mass), is alcohol.

For the US, it is measured by wt/vol.

For ease of conversion to percentage, it's in g/DL

0.08 (legally drunk in CA) its, .08 g /DL.

Lucky guy. Give his genes a few more generations and his progeny will be fit to swim in the methane seas and the ethane swamps of satellite Titan without suits.

Let me put in the application to Darwin to hold this man's award for some more time.

Although this is incredibly high for any human, it is quite normal especially in villages.

Many, many of such cases do never get noticed/documented.

For many drinking 1L of 50% vodka daily is just a common routine. Body gets used to it.

Training makes a champ.
