Police vs Tarantino: Police want total boycott (update)

Who do you side with?

  • I support Tarantino's right to free speech

  • Tarantino should keep his mouth shut

  • They both suck

  • I agree with both, free speech and the right to boycott

National Police Union Calls for Total Tarantino Boycott

The police boycott of Quentin Tarantino‘s “The Hateful Eight” has received the endorsement of the National Association of Police Organizations — a group representing 1,000 police units and associations and over 241,000 sworn law enforcement officers.
Not only does the organization support the protesting unions — which has spread to including cops in New York City, Los Angeles, Houston, New Jersey, Chicago and Philadelphia — it is discouraging police officers from engaging in promotional efforts and any future productions that routinely need the assistance of law enforcement, even for off-duty work.
“We ask officers to stop working special assignments or off-duty jobs, such as providing security, traffic control or technical advice for any of Tarantino’s projects,” a statement on NAPO’s website said.

These escalating protests sparked after Tarantino attended a rally against police brutality in Manhattan last weekend, in which he railed against “murderers” with badges.
“When I see murders, I do not stand by… I have to call a murder a murder and I have to call the murderers the murderers,” the director told a crowd of about 300, according to the New York Post.
I support Tarantino's right to free speech, the boycott is silly and will no doubt fail.

I respect police, but I hate these swine. When a sounder protects evil all are guilty.

If you don't vote for "I agree with both, free speech and the right to boycott" then you're just a complete moron.

And just because most cops are decent people it doesn't mean that when the bad ones step out of line they shouldn't be punished.

Protecting the ones that step out of line makes those cops bad.

Some people boycott Chick fil a. Some people boycott Tarantino's movies.

I may, or may not, support either group.

But I support both groups right to boycott whatever...

The rank & file often don't have much to say on the matter unless they want to lose their jobs.

I have several friends on the job and it's not easy.

Sure, but when someone pointing out someone in your profession is a stone-dead murderer leads you to boycott that person... then I don't care how hard it is to deliver pizzas. (a job with a higher mortality rate).

Wrong.

Tarantino tries to get attention for the problem of police brutality. Whether you agree with him or not, Tarantino should be allowed to speak about the issue.

The police boycott wants to shut Tarantino up. They don't want to voice their own opinion. All they want is that nobody speaks about the problem.

There is a big difference. Everybody has the right to speak. But that doesn't mean everybody has the right to try and shut someone else up. If you don't understand that, then .....

I don't give a fuck what the fuck it is you're protesting. You have the right to protest no matter how much I disagree with it. The sooner you realize this the sooner you will make it out of the "retarded liberal SJW" and into slightly competent on what is best for humanity.

bullshit: everyone has a right to be "wrong": it's the only way to let the people that are right but unpopular to show they are right.

fine for them to boycott, but I think the reaction is horribly misguided on their part.

Seems that Tarantino, and that rally, are about bad cops, not all cops (unless I am mistaken).

The police and unions reacting in such a way is tantamount to propping up bad cops with all cops, as long as it's cops vs. everyone else. If that is the case, then this really isn't an issue of police departments in specific jurisdictions, small towns scattered about the country. It should be considered a problem with culture within the entirety of the police force in the US.

Do you oppose anti-boycott regulations?

Why should police be permitted to use public money to promote their agenda here?

Not too keen on a government union organizing to disrupt commerce. I think they should stay within the scope of their job.

The boycott is simply intimidation by police. It probably won't work and most people will continue to see Tarantino movies including many police officers.

The police will also continue to kill unarmed people. So not much will change.
