Police using Digital Odometers to their advantage...

I was on the road yesterday, and I saw a Civic with one of those digital odometers. Could a police use that as evidence of speeding?

Take EZ Pass for example. The distance between two toll locations divided by the time it took to travel between the two locations would give you the average speed. If that average speed is above the speed limit, it's basically proof that you were speeding.

If the cop was pacing you see the readout he'd already know how fast you're going. AFAIK those digital speedometer readout have no such "memory" or "history" feature.

as putunz sid. odemeter=miles traveled and speedometer=speed


I soppose the odemeter could be usefull if they are timeing you and can see the odemeter. but then they could still do it anyway.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL, I own one of those damned Civics and the spedometer is indeed too damned huge. I keep it turned down to almost off position because everyone and their mother can read it clearly if I have it even 1/4th of the way up. lol

EZPASS information cannot be used for handing out speeding tickets though. It says so on their website.

Doesn't change the fact that a system such as EZ Pass could be used for exactly what I described in the future.
