we have some in town. i always have my foot on the break when i come up to it. the light is extremely fast. whenever something like this is put in a corprations hands its bound to get abused.

They also save lifes. I am here in Wilmington NC and we, for the 4th straight year, have the highest rate of accidnets of ALL of NC, and we are one of the smallest counties. I was in a Motorcycle accident April 2003, so I know how bad it is here.
Accidents and deaths at ALL the intersections have dropped down to almost 0.
Now mind you the way they set it up there was not right. They were not the worst intersections, BUT the ones the COMPANY thought they could make the most money.
I am Pro red light cameras, but Con with them being run by outsiders.

I've read that some cities in my area have been reprimanded by the manufacturers for setting them to go off too soon to purposely drive up revenue.

I just remember how they were talking about it here locally Raleigh, NC and talking about how much it's going to cost. For the amount of money they were talking about, they could hire extra cops to sit at those intersections 24/7 for 10-20 years. Whoever votes in favor of this, I would like to see their financial records or else require them to take an IQ test.
Red light cameras are basically the same thing as police giving you a ticket on a deserted highway, in a construction zone where nobody has been working for weeks, or speed traps like in the Dukes of Hazard
I guess so. In my 10+ years of driving I've never been popped for it, it's so commonplace.Originally posted by: Nitemare

Can't states that require you to have front and back plates, pull you over if you are local and missing one

You know I read somewhere you are a idiot.... and you just proved it.
They go off when the red light is on. So if they went off any sooner the piture would have you in the intercetion with either a yellow or green light.

Incorrect. They was MIS-proven a long time ago. In fact SOME of the intersections they added a LITTLE extra time to them. Congress men in DC tried saying this, after they found out they could not get out of the ticket, but it back fired on them.
The Cameras READ off the light, they do NOT control it.

I thought redlight cameras take a picture of the REAR of your car? Why would taking off your front plate help?
There's a list of requirements in order for it to be a valid "capture." One of which is a shot of both plates, and a clear view of the driver. No front plate = no ticket.Originally posted by: BCYL

I'm living proof, having gotten photographed twice in the past 3 years yet never being cited for it.

hmm i tried finding some of the reports i have read. only one i seen had a guy actually winning and the city haveing to repay $500,000 in tickets. The yellow light was 3.5 seconds and the camera was takeing pictures at 3 seconds and nailing people with the ticket.
but so far you are correct. i cant find anything that shows them actually reducing the time. though i could have sworn i read and seen them before.
edit: before mArlin gets on and tells me im wrong again llink! to story!

The ones around here go off when you CROSS the line AND the light is already red. So even if you run the light, as long as your REAR tires are JUST over the meter lines, you will not get a ticket. BUT if you cross the lines and the light is ALREADY red, then you got a ticket coming.
I am PRO red light cameras, IF they are good quality and installed correct. I have seen quite a few deaths because of idiots that can't wait less then a minute for a light to change. Myself, and my dad, were almost killed in our bike accidnets, and I have SCRAPPED body parts off the road when I drove a tow truck YEARS ago. Around here, and most areas, it is the tow truck drivers job to CLEAN the accident up. So if some EXTRA parts were left behind then we have to dispose of them or have the med people come get them.
So DON'T run a red light if you can't afford it, and grow up and act like an adult.
Oh and its mArlin, I don't do magic tricks.![]()
As far as I see it, you shouldn't be running red lights and the police have to be paid somehow to patrol the streets and make the city safe to live in. I don't mind cameras since I tend not to run red lights (just the yellows of course). And if I get caught by a camera, then I have to live with it since it was my own fault for running the red light.
