I said when all this started it will all amount to nothing because these savage regimes will get violent. These are countries who send hit men to Europe and kill ex patriots who talk bad about thier government to the press. In country? No problem.

BTW for you "I got my rifle for revolution crowd" Every home in Libya has a full auto AK47 in it. Howz that working for them? Basically it's futile against modern arms. I like hunting as much as next guy but am not stupid enough to think plinkers do much against tanks, artillery and bombs. (that Obama probably sold them)

Libya didn't do shit. The jury is still out on Libya until the oil starts flowing again. Gaddafi knows that, we know it, and even the Europeans know that. Oil supplies are tight, but the commodities speculators have moved on to other things since Japan's tragedy. However, the minute oil supplies are seriously diminished the gloves come off starting with Gaddafi merely because he's the low man on the totem pole.

So you mean that small arms won't win in a stand up fight against the military? Say it ain't so!

What's the death toll in Libya? Estimates put it in the thousands right now. The highest I've seen suggests there are might be 15,000 unaccounted for, but the only confirmed numbers are around 5,000. A few thousand people in a country of 6M is not a rebellion, it's a riot. I guess I wouldn't have expected the LA Riots to overthrow the US government either. A rebellion needs popular backing and active support from a sizeable percentage of the population. When Qaddadfi kills half a million people and continues to rule, let me know.

And not that it matters too much but:

http://www.gunpolicy.org/firearms/region/libya

If these are correct, the US has almost six times the firearms per citizen as Libya.

Iran's 1979 revolution is supposed to led to 60,000+ civilians being killed by pro-government forces. The French Revolution had 40,000+ in casualties. While regrettable, this is not entirely unexpected.

Also, do you really want Western forces in any way involved in countries where government forces don't bat an eye at firing on their fellow citizens? Sounds like a mess and a half that I don't want my country getting involved in.

besides using fighter planes to bomb the shit out of the terrorists? or i mean freedomfighters

Call them terrorists if it makes you happy; they're all poor ignorant savages and nobody really gives a damn. You might as well ask if people care about starving babies in Africa.

Oil's flowing at about 50% right now, and there's only a "shortage", if you can even call it that with the Saudis reved up production, in Europe. Speculators are back. Crude was $98 a few days back, now it's $101 again.

Damn, and I just moved everything into fake potassium iodide pills.

Still, Gaddafi's on notice. There's no way the world economy can continue to grow without that oil and he's in no position to bargain.

A professional army (or at least one full of savage mercs with tanks) will out gun shopkeepers who know how to load a rifle. However, the revolution in Libya was actually working very well and quite quickly for a time. This would have been impossible in, say, Canada where few people have access to weapons.
Also, do you really want Western forces in any way involved in countries where government forces don't bat an eye at firing on their fellow citizens?
Yes. Isn't that exactly why the West should be involved?

I harbor no illusions (although I bet 99% of the world would say the same). When Gadhafi is run into the sea he'll be replaced with people who grew up in that land. We can only hope they are better, but if the world stands by idle as a popular revolt that appears to have majority support of the population (I hope and think) is gunned down by mercs we might as well stop pretending we give any damn whatsoever unless there is immediate and clear economic benefit (read: oil) for us.

Yeah, they call them terrorists to try to justify their slaughter. If there was an uprising in america of such a scale, they'd probably start throwing around the T word too.

There is another video that came out of Bahrain a week or so ago where these protesters are just walking along... then the camera man takes cover as the gun fire starts. Then they pan back over and a bunch of the protesters are either dead or severely wounded.

The winners write the history books, and in the meantime its who controls the media.
