A man opened fire on officers during a domestic disturbance call Saturday morning, killing three of them, a police official said. Friends said he feared the Obama administration was poised to ban guns.

Vire, 23, said the gunman once had an Internet talk show but that it wasn't successful. Vire said his friend had an AK-47 rifle and several powerful handguns, including a .357 Magnum.

Well, That's ONE reason to BAN THEM right there!

Another example of guns and assault rifles in the hands of CRAZY'S and why they NEED TO BE BANNED....

I was a police officer for 3 years, it hits very close to home any time a cop is killed in the line of duty. That being said, it's absolutely sickening to see clueless assholes like yourself use tragedies like this to push your anti-second amendment agenda. DIAF

That's RICH man!

Well, we'll just keep seeing a lot of your buds dieing ... I guess your OK with that. You probably clap for joy whenever a cop gets whacked in the line of duty eh?

Hey, they couldn't pay me a million bucks to be a cop in this sick ass fucked up country.

You must have REAL problems at home. Talk about a catch 22. Well, normally I don't push stories like these to make a point. BUT This is black and white! Don't shot the messenger! Sheesh...

See guys, stories like this remind me why I think everyone should be armed with a gun.

If only those police officers had guns, this whole situation would have been prevented.

What we need is a war on guns! We all know how successful the war on drugs is.

I am sorry, you seem to believe that there is a perfect answer. Yes, if we ban guns less people will die by being shot. However, more people will be killed by other means. We have seen the evidence from other countries banning guns does not reduce their crime rate. Most importantly, while it does not seem to have any strong effect one way or the other on murders, banning guns does seem to cause an increase in rapes, assaults, and robberies.

I recognize that letting people have power is not perfect, and I wish we knew of a way to prevent these tragedies. But you are just blind to the downsides of your solution, and no matter how much you ignore those downsides they will not go away.

Compare the per capita murder rate between the UK and US.

Evidence? Again, compare per capita rates between the UK and the US.

Come on. All these overweight WOW players on this board would have prevented 9/11 by shooting the airplanes down with a hand pistol from the roof of the WTC.

Degraded?

It started out as a pro/anti-gun thread. Didn't you read the OP?

Wow, you're an asshat.

Yeah, I suppose, but, I've heard enough cops trying to ban assault riffles to know that this guy is a loser or just trolling about being a cop.

Personally I don't like to see cops die and I take their side 99% of the time. WHY? Because they are trained to protect and to serve.

I'm not in favor of banning shot guns for ordinary self defense but how is a military grade weapon justifiable to anyone? Sorry. I guess I fail to see the need for ANYONE but law enforcement swat to have weapons with cop killer Teflon coated hardened ammo. Why anyone in their right mind thinks they need to have 5000 bullets and a gun that will fire hundreds of rounds...I guess I'm missing something here.

Then, Again... Maybe I am an asshole, but if that's what it takes to get through to a few of the crazies around here. So Be It!

Yes, that's exactly it, I believe in the 2nd amendment therefore I want to see more cops die. You're an idiot. But you know what makes you look like an even bigger fuck bag? The fact that you have absolutely no clue what you're talking about.

According to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, 133 law enforcement officers died in the line of duty in 2008, a 27 percent decrease from year before and the lowest annual total since 1960.

Hey OP, why don't you bring some facts to the table and show us how many people have been killed by AK-47's?

I'm somewhat pro-gun, but crazy people shouldn't be able to buy them (i guess that would mean a lot of republicans wouldn' be able to buy them)

How about a comparison of Mexico and the US
Mexico has some of the strictest gun laws in the world. It is in many ways similar to the United Kingdom, except with much more severe prison terms for even the smallest gun law violations.

Besides this one and the four police officers were fatally shot in Oakland, Calif a few weeks ago?

How many more do you need? What is justifiable to you?

Let's see some statistics, troll.

And what exactly is your question about it being justifiable. Can you clarify that please. Are you asking me how many times it takes for something to kill someone before I think it's justifiable to ban something?

Also, are you talking about banning just full automatic rifles, or both full automatic and semi-automatic?

You know what? Nevermind. Why don't you just bring up one of the countless gun control threads that we already have here instead of disrespecting these officers and their families.
