Geographically

The closest point to mainland Australia and Tasmania is near the Resolution Island lighthouse at 45°44'S, 166°28'E (Fiordland), a distance of approximately 1,491 kilometres (926 mi) from a point near Tasman Island lighthouse 43°12'S, 148°E (Tasmania).

according to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_extreme_points_of_New_Zealand

That's further than the distance between northern border to southern border of California, which is about 750 miles / 1205 km.

While he may be pretty unpopular in this part of the world I'm not sure what Trump has to do with this story.

I'm not sure what his popularity in nz has to do with my comment. Look.
Go check out both their flags. Then tell me they're different countries!

I'm an Aussie so I know the reality before some kiwi yells at me.
Why do you guys hate each other so much?

LOL Your cherry picked map makes it look like they are a lot farther apart than they really are.

If you look at a real map, like one that includes America, you'll see they are much closer. You could easily stand on Australia and shoot a puppy on New Zealand if there were any puppies left that hadn't already been shot or eaten by Drop Bears.

Well played...
