In that case, absolutely. You have to quite literally be suicidal to get into a shootout with cops and you have no method of escape. You're still pretty damn suicidal to take a shot at a cop period.

Exactly. Even if they do yell police once they are in the residence, their voice being what woke you up, its still the exact same split second decision that the police use as justification for shooting people. At the absolute least civilians should be afforded the exact same justification for shooting police if they reasonably feared for their life because upon being awoken to armed men storming their house.

If we are going to continue having fucked up situations like this it should at the very least be fair. I say that rather tongue in cheek because I know full well that every LEO that is killed as a direct result of these kinds of tactics will only make them believe that those very tactics are even more necessary. I posted an article about a families home being destroyed by the police ramming their tank into it multiple times after the SWAT team was used to enforce a bench warrant against a guy who missed a DWI court date.

did they throw a flash grenade at a baby too?

fucking savages.

No, luckily the guys wife and kids survived the ordeal rather unscathed. Well, other than the fact that their home has been condemned due to the house "interfering with the lawful use of a police tank" and being homeless, most of their possessions smashed to shit but otherwise they are doing just great.

The recent trend of even small PDs forming SWAT teams and then needing to use them as justification for having them.

That's nothing compared to the many non-police agencies that have their own SWAT team. Including the Department of Education and the national weathermen agency NOAA.

If the article is correct, they announced themselves, already handcuffed one person, and were clearing the house when the man "pointed" his gun at the officers. Again, the Swat team was executing the orders as given to them. Unfortunately, this man, presumably, thought they were robbers and not SWAT.

To me, with the information given, the investigator jumped the gun on thin informant intel.

The biggest tragedy is the intel that they did have. They did have intel that the kid was being threatened with home invasion and that he was armed in preparation for said home invasion. The cops even told him to shoot anyone who came in the door.

Basically they had no reason to believe the kid was violent, had little reason to believe he was any kind of big time dealer, and had every reason to believe that he had a legitimate fear making him actually expect a badguy to break down his door.

It is one thing to be armed in preparation of someone trying to break into your house, it is a completely different thing when you expect someone to break in. You are much more jumpy and the slightest thing or noise, especially while asleep, can easily cause you to grab your gun.

If the SWAT team did not know this at the time they served the warrant then someone was criminally negligent in their job, putting the LEOs in greater danger, the occupants in greater danger and putting the general public in greater danger. Those 3 facts also take away all reasoning for using the SWAT team in the first place.

I have no clue WTF any of those agencies need SWAT teams for but I haven't heard about them using them, killing people needlessly and generally putting the public at greater risk.

Seriously though, who the fuck is NOAA going to raid??? A shitty weatherman or something?

Oddly enough, NOAA is charged with enforcing maritime law & some other stuff, too-

http://www.nmfs.noaa.gov/ole/

Somewhere in there, the article mentions that they've done law enforcement since 1970.

Cop gets caught stealing prescription drugs out of the police lock-up.

http://ktar.com/22/1799898/Prescott...resigns-after-video-evidence-shows-misconduct

Prescott Valley Police Department commander Arthur Askew has resigned after video evidence showed him removing prescription drugs that had previously been turned in by the public for destruction from the department's drug storage vault.

Of course, no charges filed. A non-cop would have been immediately charged to the full extent of the law, but a cop gets off with nothing. Typical.

Must be nice to be able to steal and not worry about getting punished like the rest of the country.
